  • Study: Product info prompts channel choice

    Chicago – We live in an age of information, and consumers are valuing access to product information more than ever. According to a new study of 1,000 brands and retailers from PowerReviews, more than half (57%) of online shoppers reported specifically seeking out websites with product reviews.

  • Whole Foods Q1 profit tops forecasts as sales accelerate

    Austin, Texas -- Whole Foods Market's value message is resonating with shoppers as the chain delivered same store sales growth of 4.5% and record first quarter profits as net income increased to $167 million from $158 million.

    The retailer said sales for its first quarter ended Jan. 18 increased 10% to $4.67 billion due to the addition of new selling space and the increased productivity of existing stores reflected in the 4.5% comp increase, which pushed sales per square foot to $990.

  • Rite Aid acquires PBM for $2 billion

    CAMP HILL, Pa. — Rite Aid is set to acquire the leading independent pharmacy benefit manager Envision Pharmaceutical in a deal valued at $2 billion, the retailer announced Wednesday.    Rite Aid shares were up more than 8% in pre-market trading on the news.   
  • Family Dollar looks to cloud for clear operations

    Charlotte, N.C. – Family Dollar Stores Inc. is putting its head in a cloud in order to clear its operations. As part of a three-year agreement, Family Dollar has licensed Cloud360, Cognizant's proprietary, enterprise-class cloud management platform developed on Amazon Web Services for its portal applications.

  • Pier 1 names interim CFO, cuts guidance

    Fort Worth, Texas – Pier 1 Imports Inc. has named senior VP of planning Laura A. Coffey, 48, as interim CFO. The move comes as Pier 1 reduces its guidance for fiscal 2015 and Charles “Cary” Turner retires as senior executive VP and CFO.

    Mahwah, N.J. -- Ascena Retail Group has appointed Robb Giammatteo to serve as CFO. He joined Ascena in 2013, as senior VP of financial planning and analysis and investor relations.

  • Belk promotes omnichannel head to CIO

    Charlotte, N.C. - Belk Inc. has named Scott Kessler as CIO, effective immediately. Kessler, who will report to John R. Belk, president and COO, has served as Belk’s senior VP of omnichannel solutions delivery since March 2014.
     
    Prior to that role, Kessler has more than 20 years of IT experience, nearly 10 years of which was with GSI Commerce Solutions where he was senior VP of products technology.
