    Design is at the heart of Ethan Allen’s new “Design Center” retail format, which opened in Rockville, Maryland.   The store showcases the company’s new interactive design service and brings its robust website to life. The open floor plan has design stations and large touchscreens that invite customers to work directly on projects with the company’s design professionals in a space outfitted with the latest technology.   
  • Apple brings Apple Pay out of the app

    Consumers will have a new, convenient way of making online purchases this fall.   In conjunction with the release of the new iOS10 operating system, Apple late on Monday announced that an online version of its Apple Pay digital payment service will be available to Mac device users in fall 2016. Up until this point, consumers could only complete Internet transactions using Apple Pay through a mobile app.

    For the retail industry, the storefront has taken on an entirely new meaning. The brick-and-mortar store is no longer the end-all-be-all in retailing, but the hub or pivotal point for a much larger movement – omnichannel retailing.     Quick-serve giant Subway restaurants has launched a new division, Subway Digital, to transform its customer experience.    Created in collaboration with Accenture, the new division has been charged with building a comprehensive omnichannel strategy and implementation support team to enhance engagement and build loyalty.   
  • Survey: Retail sector least prepared to comply with new FASB lease accounting standards

  • First Look: Target’s new 'Connected Living' in-store pilot

    Target Corp. is testing some of the concepts from its innovative Open House format in San Francisco in a traditional store setting.   The discounter has debuted Connected Living, an in-store experience dedicated to showing customers how connected products can work together to make life easier, more convenient and more efficient. The test is taking place in Target’s Ridgedale location in Minnetonka, Minnesota.   
  • Wendy’s security woes continue

    The Wendy's Co., which was first reported to have suffered a POS breach in January 2016, is still discovering evidence of hacking attacks.

    The fast food chain announced that additional malicious cyber activity has recently been discovered in some franchise-operated restaurants. Wendy’s has disabled the malware where it has been detected.
