  • Six disruptive digital trends for 2017

    Retailers will engage new channels, “geek up” their stores, and use technology to refine inventory management and anticipate customer desires in 2017.   That’s according to Software AG, which released a list of six disruptive digital trends retailers must address in 2017. Here’s a recap:   
  • Starbucks to bolster mobile app with artificial intelligence, personalization

    Starbucks Corp. is taking its already robust mobile ecosystem to the next level.     As part of an ambitious five-year strategy that includes aggressive store expansion, the coffee giant is extending the accessibility of its mobile app with a conversational ordering system, powered by artificial intelligence.      
  • Report: Search dominated Thanksgiving weekend sales decisions

    With many Thanksgiving weekend digital purchases stemming from searches, the convenience of mobility is helping to drive this uptick.   That’s according to the “2016 Search Spend and Purchase Report,” from NetElixir. The study analyzing more than 11 million visits across four different verticals (food and gourmet, consumer electronics, apparel and gifting), starting on Thanksgiving Day through Cyber Monday.  
  • Report: Almost two-thirds of shoppers plan to skip Cyber Monday

    While a majority of shoppers are ready to shop online this holiday season, many will sit out Cyber Monday this year.   This detail was highlighted in “Computop 2016 Holiday Shopping Study.” Computop’s report, which is based on responses from over 1,900 consumers across the United States and UK, found that 76% planned to shop online this holiday season. However, 62% of those respondents don’t plan to shop on Cyber Monday, noting it doesn’t offer the deals it used to previously.  
  • Amazon launches Black Friday deals — starting now

    For every shopper that asks “Alexa, what are your holiday deals?,” Amazon now has answers.    The Internet giant has officially kicked off the holiday countdown with the launch of its Black Friday Deals Store and curated holiday gift guides, along with an array of other digital services geared to attract shoppers this shopping season.   
  • Google testing voice search for local shopping

    Google is testing a feature that allows users to search for specific products nearby or in a specific area using voice commands.    According to a report by MediaPost, the feature, similar to a search experience, provides the users with a response (verbal in this case) based on local inventory around them.

    Staples is working on bringing the “on-demand” world to businesses.  
  • Google makes impressive store debut in Manhattan

    Google has “popped up” in the SoHo section of downtown Manhattan with a temporary store that is all about experience.   The outpost, called "Made by Google,” is designed as a showcase for the company’s expanding line of electronic devices, and give visitors a chance to try out and experience its latest devices. The store does not sell any products, however. For that, customers will have to shop online or go to Best Buy.

    Hands down, “digital disruption” was the theme of the third annual Northwest Arkansas Technology Summit, held in Rogers, Arkansas. In line with evolving concept itself, there were many definitions of what digital disruption truly means heard throughout the event.  
  • Google setting up shop in New York City

    In what could be a prelude to a retail strategy, Google is doing up a pop-up in the Big Apple.     The temporary outpost, called "Made by Google,” will open in downtown Manhattan, at 96 Spring Street, on Oct. 20, according to a notice on the search giant's website. It’s the same day that Google’s new smartphones, the Pixel and Pixel XL, go on sale nationwide.
