  • Pier 1 Q3 profit rises 3%

    Fort Worth, Texas -- Pier 1 Imports reported Thursday that net income for the third quarter rose 3% to $23.7 million, compared with $23 million in the year-ago period. Results matched Wall Street expectations.

    Revenue rose 11% to $424.5 million from $382.7 million, beating analysts’ expectations of $422.2 million in revenue. Same-store sales increased 7.9%.

    FORT WORTH, Texas — Pier 1 Imports expressed renewed confidence in its three-year growth plan following the release of third quarter results that same store sales advance 7.9%.

  • It’Sugar to expand via strategic partnership with Star Avenue Capital

    New York -- Star Avenue Capital announced that it has acquired a minority ownership position in It’Sugar, Deerfield Beach, Fla., a growing specialty candy and gift chain. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
    Star Avenue is partnering with It’Sugar CEO and founder Jeff Rubin and existing investor Prentice Consumer Partners to provide the resources and strategic guidance to support the brand’s rapid expansion. The company currently has over 50 retail locations across 13 states and four international markets.

  • Global brand developer appoints new VP, business development

    CHICAGO, Ill. — Brand development and deployment services provider Schawk has appointed Michael Larkin as its new VP of business development.

    In his new role, Larkin will be responsible for driving business development activities at consumer packaged goods companies across North America, helping those companies drive top line growth and improve efficiency at the brand level. He will focus on developing relationships with new accounts.

    New York -- Winick Realty Group said it has been retained by Brookfield Office Properties to exclusively market the retail concourse at One New York Plaza, in New York City.

  • Lane Bryant launches shopping technology and site optimization for iPad

    Columbus, Ohio -- Lane Bryant said Wednesday it has unveiled enhancements to its online shopping experience with the shopping tool ‘Just For You.’ In addition, the brand has enhanced its mobile browsing capabilities to create a seamless shopping experience from an iPad mobile device.

    “The introduction of these tools is just another way we continue to offer our guest a customized and enhanced shopping experience just for her,” said Liz Crystal, CMO.
     

  • Sugar substitute gets sweet on Mexican market

    WAYZATA, Minn. — Sugar substitute Truvia will expand beyond U.S. borders, bringing its stevia sweeteners to Mexico.

    Truvia has joined forces with Grupo Herdez, a market leader in the production, distribution, and sale of foods in Mexico, to distribute and market Truvia sweetener in Mexico. Truvia, which recently branched into Canada, will now have a presence throughout North America in 2013, although it could face an uphill battle in Mexico where artificial sweeteners have yet to catch on with consumers.

  • Chase: Green Monday top-five shopping day so far

    New York -- The Chase Holiday Pulse on Wednesday revealed that Green Monday, Dec. 10, sales showed a  10.7% year-over-year increase over Green Monday (Dec. 12) in 2011, mainly driven by merchant deals and discounts on popular gift items.
