  • Small Retailers Make Big Moves

    Every day, it seems there is news of another large retailer opening a tech innovation center, launching a new engagement channel, or otherwise making its mark as an IT innovator. But while the big guys get all the attention, a lot of smaller retailers are also doing some very interesting and innovative things with technology.

    Here are three recent examples of small retailers launching large initiatives in technology innovation:

  • Retail CMOs cautiously optimistic on holiday sales

    Chief marketing officers at leading U.S. retailers are forecasting a 4.2% increase in overall holiday store sales, according to the 10th annual BDO USA survey.

    This year’s BDO projection is only slightly higher than the National Retail Federation’s expected 3.7% increase to $630.5 billion, slower than the 4.1% increase during last year's November-December period.

  • Walmart's executive assumes COO spot at Brookdale

    The top executive over Health and Wellness of Walmart's U.S. division is leaving to join Brookdale Senior Living as its COO.

    Labeed Diab will have responsibility for all aspects of Brookdale’s operations, including community and field operations, marketing and sales. 

  • Levi Strauss makes inventory connection

    Levi Strauss & Co. is turning to the Internet of Things (IoT) as a solution to improve inventory visibility.

    Levi’s is partnering with Intel to run a proof-of-concept of the new Intel IoT platform at three of the vertical apparel retailer’s stores. The pilot allows the Levi’s stores to gain visibility into what’s on the shelf or what might be running low. The goal is to make the process of inventory management more effective, maximizing in-stock and on-shelf availability of products.

  • eBay Enterprise is divided into four parts

    The splitting up of the eBay empire continues.

    eBay has completed the previously announced sale of its eBay Enterprise division, which helps retailers enhance their online presence and e-commerce capabilities, to a consortium led by private equity firm Permira for $925 million. The consortium of buyers has separated eBay Enterprise into four distinct businesses:
