  • Sears conducting wide-ranging strategic view of business

    Sears Holdings is considering spinning off its Lands’ End and Sears Auto Center brands as part of a wide-ranging strategic review of its business. The company’s Sears Canada subsidiary has also sold five Canadian store leases to Cadillac Fairview Corporation Limited for about $383.4 million.

  • Unleashed by Petco opens in Queens, N.Y., Nov. 9

    San Diego -- Unleashed by Petco, specialty pet supply banner of the Petco Animal Supply. Inc. chain, opens a new store in the Fresh Meadows section of Queens, N.Y., on Nov. 9.

    Unleashed by Petco stores include features such as the Pet Deli, which offers a display of assorted fresh and frozen food. There is also a special sample wall where pets can taste test to find their favorite food.

  • American Girl to expand to Canada via in-store boutiques

    Middletown, Wis. -- American Girl, a division of Mattel, announced its first expansion outside the United States, with plans to open two experiential in-store boutiques in partnership with Indigo Books & Music Inc., Canada’s largest book, gift, and specialty retailer.

    Opening in spring 2014, the new American Girl retail stores will be located in Indigo’s Yorkdale Shopping Centre, Toronto, and Robson Street, Vancouver.

  • Cullinan appoints new property manager

    Peoria, Ill. — Cullinan Properties has appointed Robey R. Taylor as property manager at the Streets of St. Charles in St. Charles, Mo.

    Taylor brings 20 years of experience in property management — both in retail and office — in the St. Louis market to the post.

  • ShopperTrak: Last four days before Christmas to be among 10 busiest

    Chicago -- Four of the 10 busiest holiday shopping days will occur between Dec. 20 and Dec. 24, and retailers should prepare accordingly, according to ShopperTrak, a leading provider of shopper analytics. Additionally, with a shortened shopping season and only four weekends between Thanksgiving and Christmas – down from five last year – retailers must be ready to capture holiday spending during a narrower window of time.

  • HSN launching multi-platform holiday campaign

    St. Petersburg, Fla. -- HSN (HSNi) is leveraging the cumulative power of its portfolio of leading lifestyle brands, which include HSN, Frontgate and Ballard Designs, to launch More the Merrier, a multi-platform holiday campaign. The campaign will include digital gift guides; special promotional offers, contests and sweepstakes.

  • Martha Stewart Living names metal exec as CEO

    New York -- Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia Inc. has named board member Daniel W. Dienst, who most recently served as CEO of Sims Metal Management, as CEO. The position has been vacant since December, when chief executive since Lisa Gersh left the media and merchandising company.

    Dienst served as chairman and CEO of Metal Management Ltd. from 2003 to 2008, when it was sold to Sims. He then took the helm at the newly combined company.

  • Golf Galaxy opens interactive store in Las Vegas Nov. 1

    Pittsburgh - Golf Galaxy plans to open its second retail location in Nevada. The retailer will open a 29,000-plus-sq.-ft. store in Henderson, a Las Vegas suburb, on Nov. 1.

    At the store, offerings include services from PGA professionals and certified in-store club technicians; five hitting bays and an indoor demo range; and an on-site, full-service 42-foot tour van modeled after club manufacturers' on-site PGA Tour vans. The store also features a dedicated women's shop, a driving range, and a three-speed putting green.
