The Bon-Ton poised for omnichannel growth

8/26/2015

The Bon-Ton Stores is opening a new fulfillment center as the retailer looks to cut back on the amount of time it takes to deliver an online order.

The company announced the grand opening of its 743,000 square-foot state-of-the-art direct-to-consumer fulfillment center in West Jefferson, Ohio. The facility, which began transitioning fulfillment operations in June, was designed with the customer in mind and supports the company’s expanding e-commerce business and aggressive omnichannel growth, the company says.

"Our goal is to ensure extraordinary service to our customers,” said Kathryn Bufano, president and CEO, the Bon-Ton Stores Inc. “The facility was designed to improve operational efficiency and enhance the overall customer experience from beginning to end.”

The consolidation of five e-commerce distribution centers into one highly automated fulfillment center offers a significant expansion to the company’s shipping capacity with an estimated 40,000 units per day and 350,000 units per day at its peak during the holiday season.

“This new state-of-the-art facility was critical to accommodate the rapid growth we are experiencing in our e-commerce business,” said Bufano.

The fulfillment center is currently staffed with 200 full-time associates and will increase to 400 during the peak holiday season. The Bon-Ton Stores, Inc. is currently hiring seasonal associates for first and second shift with the potential to become permanent after the holidays.

The Bon-Ton Stores Inc. operates 270 stores.
