  • Mastercard holiday wrap-up report: Holiday sales up 5.5%, strongest increase in five years

    Purchase, N.Y. -- A report released Tuesday by MasterCard Advisors said that increased spending in most categories produced a strong holiday season for retailers, with e-commerce and apparel faring the best. Retail sales from Nov. 5 through Dec. 24 rose 5.5% to $584.3 billion over the same period last year, according to MasterCard Advisors' SpendingPulse. The figures, which exclude auto sales, are ahead of industrywide projections for a 3.3% to 4% rise for the holiday selling season.

  • Online retail sales reach Christmas season record

    New York City -- A report released Monday by Advisor One said that while it’s still too early to know the final outcome of the Christmas shopping season, it’s already clear that it’s been a record season for online retail.

  • WP Realty acquires Mayfair Shopping Center

    Philadelphia -- Bryn Mawr, Pa.-based WP Realty said it has acquired Mayfair Shopping Center, located in Philadelphia.

    Mayfair is a single-story, 115,411-sq.-ft. community shopping center comprised of four buildings, including one bank pad (Wachovia). The center is anchored by national and regional retailers including Shop ‘n Bag, Dollar Tree and Fashion Bug.

    Mayfair Shopping Center is currently 86% occupied with 16,339 sq. ft. of available retail space.

  • Bed Bath & Beyond Q3 profit climbs 28%, beats Street

    Union, N.J. -- Bed Bath & Beyond said Wednesday that profit for the quarter ended Nov. 27 rose 28% to $188.6 million, compared with $151.3 million in the year-ago period.

    Results topped analyst expectations.

    Revenue rose 11% to $2.2 billion, edging Wall Street expectations of $2.11 billion in revenue. Same-store sales increased 7%.

  • Gertrude Hawk Chocolates opens at Willow Grove Park

    Willow Grove, Pa. -- Philadelphia-based Pennsylvania Real Estate Investment Trust (PREIT) said that Gertrude Hawk Chocolates has opened a new store at Willow Grove Park, in Willow Grove, Pa.

    The 667-sq.-ft. store is located on the Second Level in the Bloomingdale’s Wing.

    Willow Grove Park is a three-level, 1.2 million-sq.-ft. regional shopping mall anchored by Bloomingdale’s, Macy’s, Sears and The Cheesecake Factory.

  • Christopher & Banks swings to loss in Q3

    Minneapolis -- Christopher & Banks Corp. reported Wednesday a net loss of $9.2 million for the third quarter, compared with a profit of $7 million in the year-ago period.

    Sales dropped to $120.9 million from $132 million in the prior year. Same-store sales decreased 7%.

That’s according to the gift card exchange website www.giftcardrescue.com and survey involving 6,000 people who created gift card wish lists on its site since the beginning of the year.

  • Tuesday Morning to open at Village Crossing, Chicago

    Niles, Ill. -- Tuesday Morning has signed a lease for 20,000 sq. ft. at Village Crossing in Niles, Ill., a North Shore suburb of Chicago.

    According to Oakbrook Terrace-based Mid-America Asset Management, the exclusive leasing representative for the center, Tuesday Morning plans to open in January 2011 as a new anchor, joining Dick’s Sporting Goods, Jewel/Osco and Pier 1 Imports.
