  • IBM: Mother’s Day drives online shopping spike

    New York -- Mother’s Day is turning into a goldmine for online retailers. Overall U.S. retail online sales for the week leading up to Mother's Day rose more than 15% compared to the same period last year, according to IBM Digital Analytics Benchmark. Mobile traffic accounted for 46.3% all online traffic, up more than 21% compared to last year. Mobile sales saw strong growth, up more than 43%, reaching over 24.4% of all online sales.

  • Dillard’s misses Street with profit and sales

    Little Rock, Ark. – Dillard’s Inc. had a disappointing first quarter of 2015, missing Wall Street expectations with both earnings and sales. Net income dropped 2% to $109.6 million, from $111.7 million a year earlier.

    Net sales climbed to $1.57 billion, from $1.55 billion. Same-store sales and total merchandise sales outside the company’s construction business both fell 1%. Dillard’s plans to open three new stores in fiscal 2015, located in Utah, Louisiana and Ohio.

    Cincinnati -- Macy’s will debut its off-price business in fall 2014, opening four stores in metro New York City. The new business, one of the department store giant’s major growth initiatives, will be called Macy’s Backstage.

    Apple’s Spaceship to Land

    Apple will open its highly anticipated new campus in April. Dubbed Apple Park, the site is located on a 175-acre site in Cupertino, Calif.

    The heart of the campus is a futuristic, ring-shaped, 2.8 million-sq.-ft. headquarters building that’s clad entirely in panels of curved glass. Designed in collaboration with Foster + Partners, Apple Park is powered by 100% renewable energy. With 17 megawatts of rooftop solar, the campus will run one of the largest on-site solar energy installations in the world.

  • Report: Uber plans retail delivery service

    San Francisco – Uber is reportedly planning to launch a same-day online retail delivery service. According to TechCrunch, Uber has already issued training documents for drivers and couriers who want to participate in the service.

    About 400 retailers including Neiman Marcus, Louis Vuitton, Tiffany’s, Cohen’s Fashion Optical and Hugo Boss are said to be considering participating in what will be called the Uber Merchant Delivery Program. Training documents reference retailers Hugo Boss and Cohen’s Fashion Optical as examples.

  • New stores coming to Fremaux Town Center

    Covington, La. - Stirling Properties and CBL & Associates Properties, Inc. are announcing 12 new tenants coming to Fremaux Town Center in Slidell, Louisiana. Anchored by a 128,000-sq.-ft. Dillard's, the second phase of this development will include approximately 285,000-sq.-ft. of additional retail space, including previously announced tenants Red Robin, Zales, Francesca’s and Aveda.  

    Construction is moving along as scheduled with a planned opening of Phase II in October 2015.

    The retailer says it is celebrating all moms this Mother's Day with the launch of the "Win One, Give One" Mother's Day Sweepstakes. Fans will have the chance to treat mom and themselves by entering online to win beautiful jewelry and a $100 Jared gift card, from now until May 3.
