New York -- Another online merchant has ventured into the physical space. Diamond and fine jewelry retailer Blue Nile has opened its first freestanding store, at Roosevelt Field Mall, Garden City, New York.
The 325-sq.-ft. space, dubbed a “Webroom” and designed by JGA, Southfield, Michigan, has a modern, inviting look. It features only several cases of product. Associates are equipped with tablets on which they can show customers the retailer’s full selection of goods and assist them in making a purchase. Merchandise can be ordered and picked up at the store, which also provides free cleanings and repair.
“Blue Nile’s customers already have the freedom to shop in their own way – via PC, tablet, and phone – and now in the New York-area, they can do so in a physical environment,” stated Blue Nile spokesman Josh Holland. “However, unlike at most traditional jewelers, consumers will have the advantage of online prices, non-commissioned advice, a huge selection, and great quality.”
