  • Retail vet Marty Hanaka joins Highland Consumer Partners as operating partner

    Cambridge, Mass. -- Highland Consumer Partners, a growth-stage venture capital firm focused on the consumer sector, announced that retail executive Marty Hanaka joined the firm in August of this year as an operating partner.

    Hanaka most recently was the interim CEO of Guitar Center, from January 2013 to April 2013.  

    Previously, he served as the chairman of Golfsmith International Holdings, from April 2007 to November 2012, and was CEO from June 2008 to November 2012.   

  • Build-A-Bear Workshop CFO and COO Tina Klocke stepping down; names new CFO

    St. Louis -- Build-A-Bear Workshop announced the appointment of Voin Todorovic as the company’s new CFO, effective Sept. 15. He assumes CFO responsibilities at Build-A-Bear Workshop from Tina Klocke, who had been serving as both the company’s CFO and COO. Klocke is leaving to pursue her interests in the not-for-profit business sector. She will remain with the retailer through first quarter 2015 and will retain her position as COO during this time.

  • Shopko stores to debut revamped open-sell jewelry departments and expanded women’s apparel

    Green Bay, Wis. -- Shopko will unveil the results of a partial store remodeling project in all of its 133 Shopko stores on Sept. 18.

    The remodel includes the removal of the stores' large glass jewelry cabinets to make shopping in the jewelry department more convenient and accessible to consumers. Customers will no longer have to wait for a store associate to unlock and remove jewelry items, but will be able to easily see, touch and try on jewelry pieces.

  • Benchmark Brands selects Upstream Commerce

    New York -- Omnichannel retailer Benchmark Brands has chosen intelligence provider, Upstream Commerce, to maximize Benchmark's price and assortment optimization.

    "We chose Upstream Commerce for their experience with large high fashion and apparel retail companies in the US," said Christine Mueller, VP, Benchmark, which specializes in footwear and related products for baby boomers and seniors. "Upstream Commerce fits our goals of providing the best omnichannel shopping experience to our customers while driving profitable growth.

  • Build-A-Bear Workshop taps new CFO

    Build-A-Bear Workshop has appointed Voin Todorovic as its new CFO, reporting to CEO Sharon John.

    "Voin has a solid background in linking financial goals and business objectives. I am excited to have him join the team as we continue to evolve our business model to leverage the strength of the Build-A-Bear brand to drive toward the Company’s stated objectives of sustainable, profitable growth,” said John.

  • DSW announces four new stores

    Columbus, Ohio – DSW Inc. plans to open four new stores on Sept. 18. The new stores will be located at the Pinnacle Promenade in Rogers, Arkansas, Ingram Festival in Ingram, Texas, Waugh Chapel Town Center in Crofton, Maryland, and Evansville Pavilion in Evansville, Indiana.

    Stores offer the DSW Rewards loyalty program, and customers can also participate in the Shoe Lovers program on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

     

  • Wolverine Worldwide strengthens leadership team

    Wolverine Worldwide is looking to bolster its brand leadership and management team. To that end, the company has promoted Rick Blackshaw to president, Sperry Top-Sider, and Chris Lindner to president, Keds.

    Blackshaw served most recently as president of Keds, where he is credited with leading the brand to a global resurgence with a focused consumer-centric business strategy, outstanding product and compelling marketing. Blackshaw came to Keds from Converse, where he was the VP and GM of the Chuck Taylor footwear business.    

  • Foot Locker to offer same-day e-commerce delivery with Deliv

    New York – Foot Locker Inc. is partnering with crowdsourced delivery service Deliv to offer shoppers on its Footlocker.com website the option to have their purchases delivered same-day. Leveraging Deliv's Application Programming Interface (API), which connects directly into the Footlocker.com website, shoppers can now select same-day or next day delivery for $5.

  • Rookwood Center nears 100% occupancy

    Cincinnati — Jeffrey R. Anderson Real Estate Inc. and Casto announced that increased leasing activity during the last six months brings the Rookwood shopping center to 99% occupancy with the addition of new Carhartt, J.Crew Factory and Rally House stores.

    In addition, negotiations are underway to lease the only remaining 1,500-sq-ft. space at Rookwood, which will then achieve full occupancy.
