    As consumers connect with their favorite brands, they expect a consistent shopping experience.   With the help of Salesforce.com, The Aldo Group consolidated shopper data across its enterprise so it can create a singular shopping experience. By adding a cloud-based platform, Aldo gained 360-degree views of each shopper, a move that provides better insight into their preferences and allows the chain to engage with consumers more effectively.  
  • Teen apparel retailer ousts longtime CEO; taps Target exec as head merchant

    Rue 21 announced a series of leadership changes as it looks to reinvigorate its brand.    In a surprise announcement on Saturday, the retailer said it had appointed CFO Keith McDonough as interim CEO, succeeding Bob Fisch, who has served as president and chief executive of Rue 21 since 2001.     
  • British retailer sets its sights on U.S.

    Wolf & Badger, a strong supporter of emerging fashion brands, is dropping anchor in the United States.   Founded in February 2010 by brothers Henry and George Graham, the British retailer will open a 2,500-sq.-ft. flagship in Manhattan’s SoHo neighborhood, in February. Although Wolf & Badger operates two stores in London, it is primarily an e-commerce player, with over 90% of its sales coming from online. But similar to many pure players, it feels a physical space is crucial to connecting with customers.

  • Zappos.com takes loyalty to a new level

    Zappos.com has found a new way to “wow” its passionate shoppers.    In a strategic move to drive engagement, the online shoe retailer launched its first-ever loyalty program. Called Zappos Rewards, the progression-based program will allow customers to earn points toward future purchases, get free expedited shipping on all orders, and receive early access to exclusive products and sales.  
  • Nordstrom Rack’s set to open at New Orleans’ Riverwalk

    A “Rally at the Rack” party is planned for Oct. 6 in downtown New Orleans for the opening of Nordstrom Rack’s store at The Outlet Collection at Riverwalk.   Nordstrom Rack will anchor the south side of the center, which owner Howard Hughes Corporation bills as the nation’s first downtown outlet location. Among the 75-or-so retail brands already doing business there are Guess Factory Store, Kay Jewelers Outlet, Neiman Marcus Last Call Studio, Reebok Outlet Store, and Wilson’s Leather.  
  • Finish Line had a good run in Q2

    The Finish Line Inc. on Friday posted Q2 sales that topped analysts expectations and announced a quicker-than-planned transition for its executive chairman   The athletic goods retailer reported a profit of $22.1 million, or 53 cents a share, in line with expectations, down from $25.9 million, or 57 cents a share, a year earlier.     Consolidated net sales for the quarter, ended Aug. 31, rose a 5.4% to $509.4 million, better than expected. Same-store store sales increased 5.1%, also topping forecasts.

    It's hard to find a brand more excited about the first day of fall than UGG.   Ready to kick off its favorite season in style, UGG is launching a custom, fall-themed Snapchat lens. The lens, which will be available until midnight tonight, is part of the company’s digital campaign, #UGGseason. UGG fans can log onto Twitter and post their favorite looks, memes and comments, including those created through Snapchat.  
  • Canada’s largest Saks Fifth Avenue to open in Montreal — in co-branded location

    Hudson’s Bay Company plans to open Canada’s largest Saks Fifth Avenue store, in downtown Montreal.    Scheduled to open in fall 2018, the store will be co-located in the same building as Hudson’s Bay, which will undergo a multi-million dollar renovation. The new Saks will take up approximately 200,000 sq. ft. of the existing 650,000-sq.-ft. space.
