  • Tanger gains full ownership of Savannah outlet center

    Tanger Factory Outlet Centers, Inc., acquired 100% ownership of Tanger Outlets Savannah, adjacent to the Savannah International Airport. The deal it made with its lone partner in the 420,000-sq.-ft. center included a $15 million cash payment and assignment of all outparcels on the property.   "The center is currently 99% occupied and is undergoing a second expansion to accommodate retailer demand for space," said Steven B. Tanger, president and CEO.   
  • Schimenti Construction to unveil nine new stores at One World Trade Center

    Schimenti Construction will play a major role in the opening of the Westfield World Trade Center retail center and transportation hub in downtown Manhattan on Aug. 16.    The Ridgefield, Conn.-based firm served as the general contractor for nine stores in the new retail and center, developing spaces for Banana Republic, H&M, Fossil, Victoria’s Secret, Under Armour, COS, Breitling, & Other Stories, and Cole Haan.  
  • Nordstrom feeling bullish

    Nordstrom Inc. on Thursday reported second quarter earnings that exceeded Wall Street estimates, and also lifted its full-year earnings outlook.   The upscale department store profit’s fell to $117 million, or $0.67 per share, from $211 million or $0.1.09 per share in the year-ago period. Analysts had expected earnings of $0.56 per share.   
  • Opening date set for center 10 years in the making

    It’s official: The long-awaited Westfield World Trade Center in downtown Manhattan is finally ready to open its doors.   Likely to become of the city’s most visited retail destinations, the shopping center will celebrate its grand opening on Aug. 16. With 365,000 sq. ft. of retail space, it will feature more than 100 global and local fashion, beauty, lifestyle and technology brands.  
  • Dick’s Sporting Goods going big in Houston

    Dick’s Sporting Goods is expanding its footprint in the Houston market.   The retailer is looking to open six stores this fall in the Houston area, up from the five it had previously announced, the Houston Business Journal reported.   In November, General Growth Properties announced it had signed lease agreements with Dick’s to open in five GG shopping centers in Houston: Baybrook Mall, Deebrook Mall, First Colony Mall, The Woodlands Mall, and Willowbrook Mall.
  • Teen apparel retailer to unveil new store prototype

    It’s no secret that Abercrombie & Fitch has been developing a new prototype.   The chain will unveil its new look early next year, at Polaris Fashion Place, in Columbus, Ohio. The store will herald a new direction for the brand with a new aesthetic and updated merchandise selections. It will be situated on the lower level near Madewell.     Abercrombie has already introduced a new look for its Hollister store brand.  
  • Gap not looking great

    Gap Inc. unveiled preliminary results for the second quarter that were not very promising as Banana Republic continues to bleed. The retailer said revenue and same-store sales slipped for the month of July, and for the second quarter, which ended July 30. Gap’s net sales for the quarter were $3.85 billion, compared with $3.90 billion for the second quarter last year.
  • Exec appointment at Timberland

    VF Corporation announced the promotion of Jim Pisani to the position of global brand president, Timberland, effective immediately.   Pisani most recently served as president of VF’s licensed sports group.  
  • French lifestyle brand to raise U.S. profile with renovated stores, new locations

    The brand known the world over for its iconic crocodile logo has a new retail strategy.   In a move to enhance its brand in the United States, Lacoste is renovating high-profile locations and opening more impactful, larger-format retail stores in the its key U.S. markets, which include New York, south Florida and southern California.   
  • Children’s lifestyle brand acquired with plans to expand retail footprint

    A premium children’s brand is planning a growth spurt.    Private equity firm L Catterton has acquired Hanna Andersson for an undisclosed sum, with the intent of expanding the Swedish children’s apparel retailer across its channels.   Hanna Andersson currently operates a robust e-commerce and catalog business in addition to 55 retail stores and 11 outlet locations.
