  • Chicago hospital opens retail and dining development

    Chicago — Northwestern Memorial Hospital has completed the first phase of “Shop & Dine Northwestern,” a 70,000-sq.-ft. retail and restaurant development. The new facilities feature Chicago-based healthy quick service, fine dining and specialty retailers throughout the medical campus, which stands just one block east of Michigan Avenue’s Magnificent Mile shopping district.   • ARCP hires retail real estate vet

    New York -- American Retail Capital Properties (ARCP) has appointed Glenn Kindred as executive VP of its restaurants division. Kindred will join Nicholas S. Schorsch, executive chairman and CEO, Lisa Beeson, COO, Brian S. Block, CFO, and Lisa Pavelka McAlister, chief accounting officer, as part of ARCP's self-managed executive team. Joining ARCP from GE Capital, Mr. Kindred will oversee ARCP's growing portfolio of restaurant and quick service assets.  

  • MarineMax names Denny’s exec to board

    Clearwater, Fla. – Recreational boat retailer MarineMax has named Frances Allen, executive VP and chief brand officer for Denny’s Corporation, to its board of directors. Prior to joining Denny’s, Allen was chief marketing officer for Dunkin Donuts. Her prior roles also include managing marketing efforts at Sony Ericsson Mobil Communications, Pepsi-Cola North America and Frito-Lay.

  • Trabocco Kitchen signs into Alameda South Shore

    Alameda, Calif. — Trabocco Kitchen and Cocktails, a new restaurant founded by Alameda residents Chef Giuseppe Naccarelli, a native of Palombaro, Italy, and his wife Christine, will open Nov. 18 at South Shore Center in Alameda. The 4,700-sq.-ft. restaurant is located in Center Court, the shopping center’s main plaza.

  • Another first for Starbucks: Store on a train

    New York -- Starbucks Coffee Company and Swiss Federal Railways (SBB) on Thursday unveiled the first-ever Starbucks store on a train. The train’s maiden voyage will take place on the train line running from Geneva Airport to St. Gallen in Switzerland on Nov. 21 at 6:36 a.m.

  • Silverspot Cinema signs into University Mall

    Chapel Hill, N.C. — Silverspot has signed a lease for a 52,500-sq.-ft. movie theater at University Mall in Orange County, N.C. Four new boutiques, a high end sporting goods store and a new fine dining option have also signed leases recently.

    The new tenants are part of a redevelopment plan being carried out by owner Madison Marquette.

    Silverspot at University Mall, a theater and casual dining concept, will be the fifth U.S. location for the company, a division of Cines Unidos, one of the largest theater companies in South America.

  • NRF: Holiday gift card spending to reach all-time high

    Washington, D.C. – Eight-in-10 (80.6%) shoppers will purchase gift cards this holiday season, according to the National Retail Federation’s Gift Card Spending Survey conducted by Prosper Insights & Analytics. Holiday shoppers will spend an average of $163.16 on gift cards, up 4.0% over the $156.86 they spent last year and the highest amount in the survey’s 11-year history. Total spending on gift cards will reach $29.8 billion.
