  • Visa, Pizza Hut testing ‘connected’ car; order, pay from cars — without phones

    New York -- Visa Inc., Pizza Hut and Accenture have teamed up to develop a connected car to test mobile and online purchases on the go. The connected car is expected to feature Visa Checkout (Visa’s online payment service), cellular connectivity, Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE), and Beacon technology deployed at Pizza Hut restaurants to alert staff when the customer has arrived and is ready to pick up the order. Accenture is managing the integration of the technologies.

  • Potbelly Corp. CFO resigns

    Chicago – Charles Talbot, CFO of food service retailer Potbelly Corp., is leaving the company for a position outside the restaurant industry. Talbot will continue to serve as Potbelly's CFO while an external search is underway, until his departure on March 27.

    Orlando, Fla. - Planet Hollywood, is transforming its Orlando flagship location into a four-story star-gazing observatory set to debut in spring 2016. The reimagined “Planet Hollywood Observatory” will overlook the heart of Downtown Disney with a newly-expanded outdoor terrace and bar.

  • Report: Domino’s promotes names change on Instagram

    Ann Arbor, Mich. – Pizza retailer Domino’s, which recently shortened its name from “Domino’s Pizza,” is reportedly turning to social media to promote the name change and also locate out-of-date signs. According to the Chicago Sun-Times, Domino’s is encouraging consumers to upload photos of signs with the old Domino’s Pizza logo and name to Instagram using the hashtags #LogoInformants and #Sweeps.

  • RPAI acquires Cedar Park Town Center

    Austin, Texas -- Retail Properties of America, Inc., closed on the acquisition of Cedar Park Town Center, a 181,000-sq.-ft. community center located in Cedar Park, an Austin, Texas submarket. The purchase price was $39.1 million.

    The property is situated at the intersection of two major freeways, with visibility and access to more than 73,000 vehicles per day. Cedar Park is shadow-anchored by Costco and is 94.5% occupied and leased to a lineup of national and regional tenants, including At Home, Chipotle, BJ’s Brewhouse and In-N-Out Burger.

  • Firehouse Subs adopts Apple Pay

    Jacksonville, Fla. - Firehouse Subs, a fast-casual restaurant chain with more than 860 locations, is enacting a nationwide rollout of Apple Pay. Firehouse Subs now offers customers the option to make mobile payments from their iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus and soon Apple Watch.

  • The Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf appoints Starbucks vet as Asia VP

    Los Angeles - The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf has added Andrew Nathan as senior VP of Asia Pacific and member of the executive team. In this newly created role, Nathan will be the primary driver of the company's growth opportunities in Asia, including responsibility for operations in Singapore and Malaysia.

    Nathan assumes responsibilities previously held by Victor Sassoon, CEO of Asia Pacific, who continues as a board member of the company. Nathan will be based in Singapore and report to John Dawson, president and CEO.

  • Wendy’s adds former Microsoft marketing head to board

    Dublin, Ohio - The Wendy's Co. has increased the size of its board of directors from 10 to 11 members and elected Michelle "Mich" Mathews-Spradlin to serve as a director of the company, effective immediately.

    Prior to her retirement in 2011, Mathews-Spradlin worked at Microsoft Corp. for 18 years, where she served, among other roles, as chief marketing officer and senior VP. In this position, she oversaw the company's global marketing function.
