  • Penney adds cybersecurity expert to board

    J.C. Penney Company has added a former senior advisor to the director of the U.S. National Security Agency (NSA), to its board of directors.   Debora Plunkett is joining the Penney board. Possessing extensive experience in cybersecurity, information assurance and innovation in information security, Plunkett has a deep understanding of the data-driven and interconnected world of today, the retailer said.  
  • Study: Virtual reality market to hit $9.2 billion by 2021

    The proliferation of cheaper, mass-produced consumer-grade virtual reality (VR) applications are finding their niche in retail.   The technology, which was often synonymous with customized and expensive equipment, has been a long-time staple for military training, civil flight training, and industrial 3D modeling.   
  • The Big Apple preps for tech hub

    In a move that could attract more tech start-ups, New York City will be the home to one of the newest innovation labs.   The 250,000-sq.-ft. “Union Square Tech Hub,” which was announced in December, will include 58,000 sq. ft. of “fluid space” for startups, and a 36,500 sq.-ft. tech training center, reported TechCrunch.   
  • Store design competition extends entry deadline

    The Retail Design Institute has extend the deadline for submission of entries to the International Store Design Competition to March 1, 2017   Design firms and in-house retail design teams from around the globe are invited to submit projects for the Retail Design Institute’s annual competition. Eligible projects are those completed between January 1 and December 31, 2016.
