Lowe’s is bringing an experience that lets customers use immersive 3D layouts to virtually design their kitchens to its stores.

In February 2024, the home improvement giant debuted a new spatial computing app called “Lowe’s Style Studio.” Designed exclusively for Apple Vision Pro, which is controlled by a user's eyes and hands, and offered via the App Store, Lowe's Style Studio allows customers to enter an immersive 3D kitchen scene.

From there, customers can explore preset styles curated by Lowe’s professional designers, and customize hundreds of real-world materials, fixtures, and appliances – all available at Lowes.com or in store – to fit their personal taste. According to Lowe’s, the Style Studio offers nearly 80 billion possible combinations.

Now, Lowe's is becoming the first home improvement retailer to offer customers an in-store, Apple Vision Pro-powered experience.

The pilot will launch in three select stores, kicking off in Lowe's hometown at its central Charlotte, N.C. store, from June 8-12. Later in the month, from June 22-25, the experience will be available at Lowe's stores in North Bergen, N.J. and Sunnyvale, Calif.

Customers in these pilot markets will be able to access an online booking tool to select the time and date that works best for them, and Lowe's will also accommodate a limited number of walk-ins.

How it works

The in-store Lowe's Style Studio experience centers on an immersive kitchen visualization session, where customers wear Apple Vision Pro and run the Lowe's Style Studio app to explore preset styles curated by Lowe's professional designers, and customize hundreds of real-world materials, fixtures, and appliances – all available at Lowes.com or in store – to fit their personal taste.

A Lowe's associate will guide customers through the process during their one-on-one appointment. When they have found a winning theme, customers can save their style selections and then email, text or AirDrop them as a PDF to friends, family, a designer or contractor, and ultimately shop them in store, online, or in the Lowe's mobile app.

Lowe’s Innovation Labs continues next-gen technology efforts

Lowe’s Style Studio was built by its Lowe’s Innovation Labs proprietary tech hub. Other solutions developed by Lowe’s Innovation Labs include an end-to-end room scanning, measurement and estimate tool called "Measure Your Space," as well an interactive virtual model, or “digital twin,” of its stores that enables employees to visualize and interact with nearly all of a store's digital data.

In addition, Lowe’s Innovation Labs created the retailer’s Lowe’s Product Expert custom GPT tool that delivers home improvement product recommendations via generative AI, which is based on machine learning (ML) and can create new content and ideas, including conversations, stories, images, videos and music.

Based in Mooresville, N.C., Lowe's operates over 1,700 home improvement stores and employs approximately 300,000 associates.
