Macy's confirms planned store closures — here are the locations
Macy’s Inc. has confirmed the closure of 66 namesake “non-go-forward” store locations.
The closures, which were first announced in February 2024 as part of the retailer’s “Bold New Chapter” strategy, are spread across 22 states, with California and New York losing the most (nine stores each.) Macy's store in Philadelphia, located in the historic Wanamaker building at 1300 Market St., is also closing.
The 66 Macy’s locations going dark can be found here or listed (by state) at end of article.
“Closing any store is never easy, but as part of our Bold New Chapter strategy, we are closing underproductive Macy’s stores to allow us to focus our resources and prioritize investments in our go–forward stores, where customers are already responding positively to better product offerings and elevated service,” said Tony Spring, chairman and CEO.
Designed to return Macy’s to sustainable, profitable sales growth, the strategy includes closing approximately 150 underproductive stores over a three-year period while investing in updates in 350 “go-forward“ Macy’s locations through fiscal 2026.
Since the start of the strategy, investments in the pilot Macy’s stores — billed as the “First 50" — have boosted sales for three consecutive quarters and contributed to record customer satisfaction scores for the Macy’s nameplate, the company said.
“Building on that success, Macy’s enters 2025 well-positioned to build momentum with a stronger store fleet and remains focused on bringing this enhanced customer experience to more locations nationwide and through its digital channels,” Macy’s stated.
