eBay streamlines mobile listings with 'magical' AI technology

eBay mobile AI listing
eBay is enhancing mobile seller listings.

eBay is integrating artificial intelligence-enabled seller listing functionality with a guided mobile experience.

eBay is taking its "magical" seller listing solution that uses AI to analyze, research and extrapolate details about listings from seller-provided data and combining it with a mobile-friendly listing flow in an effort to improve the ease, speed, and quality of listing creation for sellers.

This simplified listing experience allows sellers to take or upload a product image and use AI to help fill in item specifics. Where eBay’s previous mobile listing flow started with a text-based search for similar listings within the retailer’s catalog for sellers to edit and customize, this new experience begins with sellers providing photos and a title.

It then leverages AI automation, leveraging image match and inference capabilities to suggest product details and suitable categories according to eBay’s guided, task-focused pages. The seller can review and approve content for mobile listings.

According to eBay, early testing in the U.K. shows that the new, streamlined experience has led to a 50% reduction in the total steps needed to list products via the eBay app and faster listing times. eBay says that accuracy of item specifics will continue to improve over time as updates are made throughout the year.

eBay says that more than 10 million sellers worldwide have already used its AI features, creating more than 100 million listings using AI and generating billions of dollars in gross merchandise volume (GMV).

The simplified listing tool is now available in the eBay mobile app in the U.S., U.K., and Germany for private sellers across all categories.

eBay eases product listing process

Other AI solutions eBay has released to help streamline product listings and posts for its sellers include a selling tool called the "magical bulk listing tool" that leverages generative AI to let sellers upload batches of product images for which eBay will generate draft listings with suggested categories, titles, and item specifics within seconds.

In addition, eBay offers a background enhancement tool that enables sellers to remove a background from an existing product listing photo, leaving just the actual item they are selling, and then place that item in a new AI-generated backdrop chosen from a variety of scenes and themes.
