eBay’s latest AI seller tool enables instant multiple listings

eBay is enabling multiple image postings with AI.

eBay continues developing AI solutions to streamline product listings and posts for its sellers.

The e-commerce giant has released a new selling tool called the "magical bulk listing tool" that leverages generative AI to let sellers upload batches of product images for which eBay will generate draft listings with suggested categories, titles, and item specifics within seconds.

After reviewing the details for accuracy, sellers can publish their listings to the marketplace. The magical bulk listing tool can process hundreds of photos per batch and create multiple drafts simultaneously. U.S. Seller Hub users can deploy the tool now to list in the sports trading card category, and eBay plans to expand it to more categories and countries in the coming months.

According to eBay, early data showed that among users creating listings for trading cards, the solution significantly reduced the time it took to list items.

How it works

Sellers follow these steps to utilize the new bulk listing solution:

  1. Navigate to the Seller Hub Listings page and select the blue “Create listings” button.
  2. Select “Multiple listings from photos” in the drop-down menu.
  3. Choose the number of photos per draft to upload.
  4. Upload photos.
  5. Review the details for accuracy and edit drafts as needed before publishing them.

eBay will prefill values when the company is confident there is a match. Sometimes, eBay will provide suggestions when it needs a seller to check and select the most accurate option.

To handle shipping, returns and payment, eBay will save and apply what a seller selected from their most recent listing in the same category. Sellers can update these settings on their listings at any time.

Using this tool is completely optional for sellers. If they prefer to use bulk listing tools without new AI capabilities, sellers can select “Multiple listings” from the “Create listing” options on the Seller Hub Listings tab and continue to enter item details as before.

eBay aids sellers with AI

eBay has developed other AI-based seller tools, specifically based on the generative AI machine learning models, in the past year. In June 2024, the retailer introduced an AI-based background enhancement tool allowing sellers to remove a background from an existing product listing photo, leaving just the actual item they are selling, and then place that item in a new AI-generated backdrop chosen from a variety of scenes and themes.

In December 2023, eBay released a new feature based on generative AI technology that enables sellers to draft social media posts with the click a button.

And in September 2023, the e-tailer released what it termed a "magical" seller listing solution that uses AI to analyze, research and extrapolate details about listings from a small amount of seller-provided data, including images.

From a photo, the AI technology can write titles, descriptions and add vital information, which could include product release date, detailed category and sub-category, and can combine with eBay’s other technology to suggest a listing price and shipping cost.

eBay says it is developing more AI-powered tools and features simplify how sellers list and manage their inventory.

Founded in 1995 in San Jose, Calif., eBay enabled more than $73 billion of gross merchandise volume in 2023.
