  • Tops expands presence in upstate New York, Vermont with acquisition of GU Markets stores

    Williamsville, N.Y. -- Tops Friendly Markets has entered an agreement with C&S Wholesale Grocers affiliate GU Markets to acquire 21 supermarkets located in upstate New York and Vermont.

    Tops said the acquisition will bring its number of operating stores to 153 and will expand Tops' footprint further into areas of northern and eastern New York State and neighboring northern Vermont. For the time being, 20 of the stores will continue to operate under the Grand Union banner, while the other store will continue to operate under the Bryant's banner.

  • Tops reports Q3 results

    WILLIAMSVILLE, N.Y. — Regional supermarket chain Tops Markets reported a 3.6% increase in net sales for the period ended Oct. 8.

    Third-quarter net sales rose $18.7 million to $538.6 million, the retailer said. Supermarket sales (excluding gasoline sales) totaled $491 million, up $7.5 million, or 1.5%, compared with the year-ago period.

  • Tops selects next-generation POS software from Retalix

    Dallas -- Retalix announced Tuesday that grocery chain Tops Markets has selected Retalix’s StoreLine point-of-sale software application to lower the cost of ownership and increase the functionality of its front-end operations.

    According to Tops, the chain was looking to upgrade its legacy POS software as part of a larger initiative to enhance customer service.

  • DemandTec and Tops Markets renew agreement

    San Francisco -- DemandTec announced that Tops Markets has renewed its subscription to multiple DemandTec pricing and promotion software services on the network.

    A customer since 2008, Tops leverages DemandTec services across core merchandising and marketing functions that touch pricing, promotion, and collaborative deal management processes.

  • Tops Friendly Markets renews IT agreement with HP

    Palo Alto, Calif. -- HP Enterprise Services Monday announced Tops Friendly Markets, the New York-based supermarket chain with stores in New York and Pennsylvania, has signed a seven-year applications and infrastructure technology services contract valued in excess of $80 million that gives the retailer flexibility to transform its business processes to drive growth.
