As their merger enters the home stretch, Delhaize Group and Ahold have reached agreements with buyers to divest 86 U.S. stores.   The two international companies announced their intent to combine forces back in June 20115. The merger is set for completion at the end of July, pending final approval by the Federal Trade Commission.  

Tops Friendly Markets, a Williamsville, New York-based supermarket chain with more than 170 stores in New York, Pennsylvania and Vermont, is making sure the last step in the path to purchase goes smoothly.

Tops is leveraging the Toshiba SurePOS ACE POS application to provide store shoppers with a convenient and integrated customer experience. During a nine-month chainwide rollout, the retailer replaced 20-plus-year-old POS terminals with the new Toshiba solution.

WILLIAMSVILLE, N.Y. — Tops Friendly Markets, a grocer in upstate New York, northern Pennsylvania and western Vermont, is closing pharmacy departments in 27 of its 162 locations this month and transferring pharmacy prescriptions and inventory to five CVS/Pharmacy and 22 Rite Aid locations near each affected store.
