Chipotle teams with Snapchat on augmented reality guacamole promotion
Chipotle Mexican Grill is integrating real avocados into a new campaign featuring Snapchat augmented reality filters.
Through Wednesday, July 30, the fast casual restaurant chain’s new interactive "AvoLotto Sweepstakes" celebrates the upcoming National Avocado Day (Thursday, July 31) by allowing customers to scan real avocados using an exclusive AR Lens feature on Snapchat for a chance to win free guacamole for a year.
How it works
- Customers navigate to the Chipotle profile on Snapchat to find the "AvoLotto" Lens.
- Customers can then use their camera to scan a real avocado.
- An on-screen message will notify up to 1,000 users per day from July 28-30 that they have won free guacamole for a year by scanning their avocados. To redeem, winning entrants need to enter the code that appears on Snapchat into their Chipotle Rewards loyalty account within five days of receipt.
Previously, Chipotle partnered with Snapchat to promote its 2023 Lifestyle Bowls. The company created an augmented reality (AR) lens filter designed to encourage customers to follow Chipotle-inspired exercises and meditation prompts.
Chipotle Rewards National Avocado Day extras
On Thursday, July 31, Chipotle Rewards members can obtain a free topping or side of guacamole with the digital code AVO2025 on the retailer’s site or app when they purchase a regular-priced entrée, in honor of National Avocado Day.
"Each year for National Avocado Day, the holiday that has become synonymous with Chipotle, we find new and creative ways for fans to score our hand-mashed guac," said Chris Brandt, president, chief brand officer, Chipotle. "We only use real ingredients in our restaurants, so when we worked with Snapchat to create 'AvoLotto,' we had to make sure that it only detects real fruit."
From now through Sunday, Aug. 31, Chipotle Rewards members who also opt in to the summerlong "Summer of Extras" promotion can earn extra points, exclusive badges and more for completing milestones each month. A dashboard tracks members' performance against other users in their state based on transactions.
