  • Kohl’s Q1 profit tops forecast, misses on sales

    Menomonee Falls, Wis. – Kohl’s Corp. exceeded Wall Street expectations for profit but missed analysts’ expectations with its sales and same-store sales performance during a mixed first quarter of fiscal 2015.

    Net income climbed 2% to $127 million from $125 million in the year-earlier period, aided by improved expense management.

  • Office Depot wants shoppers to 'gear up' for holiday

    Office Depot is trying to get shoppers to think about computers instead of barbecue grills with a Memorial Day promotion.

    The retailer has announced two weeks of Memorial Day sales beginning on May 17 while also offering clearance deals of up to 65% off the regular price on tech, supplies and more and furniture discounts up to 40% off the regular price that are sure to please every retail store shopper.

  • Winter’s toll on retailers includes high snow removal bills

    New York -- It’s no secret that the past winter took a heavy toll on retailers, with bitterly cold weather and snow storms keeping customers at home and sales down. But the snow also had a negative impact on retailers in other ways, as Kohl’s Corp. revealed Thursday on its quarterly conference with analysts.

  • Study: Easter shift hurts April retail sales

    San Jose, Calif. – The shift of the Easter shopping season to March 2015 from April 2014 (Easter fell on April 5, 2015, the first day of fiscal April) had a substantial negative impact on year-over-year retail sales results. According to the RetailNext Retail Performance Pulse, sales dropped 12.5% compared to the same month a year earlier, while sales per shopper (SPS) actually increased 2.4%.

    Babies"R"Us is showing some love to expectant mothers by hosting baby showers for military moms-to-be for the third year in a row.

    Babies"R"Us has provided more than $500,000 to the Operation Shower organization through grant funding and in-kind donations for the past three years of the partnership.Operation Shower is an organization that hosts baby showers for military moms-to-be as they experience the journey of pregnancy while their spouses are deployed.
