  • Nordstrom Q2 profit soars 20%

    Seattle -- Nordstrom reported Thursday that net income for its second quarter rose 20% to $175 million, compared with $146 million in the year earlier period.

    Revenue surged 12.4% to $2.72 billion, benefited by strong promotions and matching Wall Street estimates. Same-store sales rose a solid 7.3%. The department store retailer has raised its profit outlook for the full year.

    Its outlet concept Nordstrom Rack saw net sales increase 23.4% to $92 million, and same-store sales rose 4.8%.

  • CityTarget in Chicago to feature Pret A Manager

    New York City -- Target announced that the British take-out chain Pret A Manager will open a location in CityTarget in Chicago.

    The new, smaller Target format is set to open in the Windy City in 2012.

  • Payless ShoeSource to rebuild Joplin, Mo., store

    Topeka, Kan. -- Collective Brands’ Payless ShoeSource announced that it will rebuild its tornado-demolished store in Joplin, Mo., with a new 3,100-sq.-ft. store at the same location.

  • Kohl's Q2 profit up 17%, on track to open 31 stores

    Menomonee Falls, Wis. -- Kohl's Corp. reported Thursday that profit for the quarter ended July 30 rose 17% to $303 million, compared with $260 million in the year-ago period. The retailer cited tightened cost controls and success of store-label brands for the improved performance, and has raised its full-year guidance.

    Kohl’s said it is on track to open an additional 31 stores this year, as well as remodel another 15 stores next month. The company opened nine and remodeled 85 stores in the first half of the year.

  • SRS Real Estate names senior associate

    Dallas -- SRS Real Estate Partners announced Thursday it has hired Lenny Eterno as a senior associate in the South Florida office.

    Eterno will be focusing on the Miami Beach and downtown Miami trade areas.

    Prior to joining SRS, Eterno worked for SRS’ affiliate, Cypress AutoGroup, LLC, where he completed transactions throughout the southeast.
     

  • Jones Lang LaSalle wins 13 new retail assignments

    Atlanta -- Jones Lang LaSalle announced it has been chosen for 13 new retail services assignments including property management, leasing and accounting services for a variety of owners throughout the United States.

    During the first half of 2011, Jones Lang LaSalle has added 22 new retail assignments totaling more than 5.3 million sq. ft. of space.

  • Retail revolution in NWA continues

    Outdoor retailer Cabela’s has announced plans to open one of its signature stores in Rogers, Ark., next summer, continuing an influx of retail development that has steadily elevated the region’s shopping options.

    A decade ago, the biggest decision facing shoppers who lived in Benton County was which Walmart to shop at. Either that or drive to Fayetteville where an aging mall featured Dillard’s and JCPenney as anchor tenants. Other folks made the two-hour trek to Tulsa, Okla., which boasted more choices, but hardly qualified as a shopping Mecca.

  • Family Dollar opens 7,000th store

    Matthews, N.C. -- Family Dollar said Thursday it has opened its 7,000th store -- on South Highland St. in Memphis, Ten.

    The newest store, which opened on Wednesday, features a new design with green elements and easy-to-navigate layout.
