  • Kohl’s unwraps new strategy this holiday season

    With the holiday shopping season underway and many retailers bracing for stiff competition, Kohl’s plans on keeping its doors open for more than 100 hours, from 6 a.m. Friday, Dec. 20 through 6 p.m. Christmas Eve, Tuesday, Dec. 24.

    Although the strategy is familiar to retailers such as Toys “R” Us, it is a first for Kohl’s. The move comes following a comparable-store sales increase of 0.9% for the second-quarter which fell short of Wall Street estimates.

    Given the overwhelming emphasis on e-commerce, mobile apps and digital initiatives this holiday season, Target offered a trip down memory lane on its website, where it showcased some interesting marketing efforts.

  • Report: Amazon opens pop-up in San Francisco

    New York -- Online giant Amazon has opened a pop-up store in Westfield San Francisco Centre, San Francisco. The pop-up sells Kindle tablets and e-readers, as well as branded covers and power adapters from vending machines, according to The Wall Street Journal. It is one of a handful of pop-ups the company has opened in malls.

    Citing one of the employees at the location, WSJ reported that the pop-up store would close after two weeks.

    Macy’s is kicking off its fifth annual National Believe Day. As part of Macy's nostalgic Believe campaign, which was inspired by the New York Sun's famous editorial "Yes, Virginia, there is a Santa Claus," National Believe Day was created to spread the season's message of kindness and generosity toward others.

  • Sears heads to the Jingle Ball

    Sears will be participating in KIIS FM's Jingle Ball 2013, Friday, Dec. 6 at LA Live in Los Angeles. The main event will include a Sears Style fashion show in the Jingle Ball Village.

  • Top five brand experience trends for 2014

    Boston – The top five brand experience trends for 2014 include retail relevancy and “small data,” according to brand experience agency Jack Morton. The company predicts the following five trends will prove dominant in brand experience during the upcoming year.

  • BDO survey: Retailers using social media as part of holiday blitz

    Chicago -- A majority (88%) of retailers are using social media as part of their 2013 holiday marketing blitz. But they still remain divided about mobile marketing, with only 38% using it this year, down from 50% in 2012.
