  • Icing being rebranded; 35 stores on tap

    New York -- Icing, a division of Claire’s Stores, is being re-branded with a new store design, new logo and updated imagery, Women’s Wear Daily reported.

    The jewelry and accessories retailer plans to open some 35 stores this year, including a flagship in Chicago. The new locations will feature the updated design. Existing stores will be remodeled.
     

  • Macy’s tapping into customer creativity for new ad

    NEW YORK — Macy’s is turning to its customers for its next commercial, the retailer’s first national crowd-sourced spot created in celebration of America by Americans. 

  • H-E-B and Pampers do Texas two-step

    SAN ANTONIO, Texas — H-E-B, Pampers and Interactions have teamed up to offer an exclusive 60-stop H-E-B Baby “Little Texans Tour,” sponsored by Pampers. 

    The tour aims to promote healthy families and the assortment of infant and baby products offered at H-E-B stores. 

  • Uniqlo CEO among Time’s 100

    Chairman, president and CEO of Fast Retailing Tadashi Yanai is among the 2013 Time 100, the magazine's annual list of the 100 most influential people in the world. 

    Yanai was the only retail and CPG company executive to make the list. Other notables with a connection to the retail industry included Samsung CEO Oh-Hyun Kwon, Paypal co-founder Elon Musk and fashion designer Michael Kors. The complete list will appear in the April 29 issue of Time, available now.

  • American Girl, Monster High drive Mattel Q1 results

    EL SEGUNDO, Calif. — Key Mattel brands drove Mattel sales for the first quarter of 2013. 

    Mattel's net sales for the quarter were $996 million, up 7% compared to $928 million last year, and net income increased dramatically to $38.5 million, or $0.11 per share, compared to last year's first quarter net income of $7.8 million, or $0.02 per share.

    FORT WORTH — RadioShack has named Jennifer Warren as its new SVP and CMO, and Michael DeFazio as its new SVP of store concepts. 

  • Tesco to exit U.S.; takes $3.5 billion global write-down

    London -- Grocery chain Fresh & Easy’s British parent Tesco confirmed Wednesday that it will abandon its U.S. business, selling off the 199-store chain and taking a $3.5 billion write-down.

  • Uniqlo looks to endear itself to New Yorkers

    NEW YORK — Global clothing retailer Uniqlo will become the exclusive, multi-year corporate sponsor of the Museum of Modern Art’s Friday night free admission program, beginning in May. 

    The program provides free access to the museum and all exhibitions from 4 to 8 p.m., every Friday, throughout the year, a tremendous value considering the normal admission fee is $25.
