  • UPS capitalizes on shorter holiday shopping season

    UPS is trying to capitalize on this year’s shorter holiday shopping season, which is six days fewer than last year’s, by touting the shipping services its UPS Store offers.

    The UPS Store has a network of 4,300 employees at locally owned and operated centers ready to pack and ship everything from fragile glass ornaments to surfboards and golf clubs. The store also offers customers a Pack and Ship Guarantee.

    Consumers who prefer packing their own gifts themselves can obviously still ship them via the UPS Store, but are asked to do the following:

    Fitness and fashion are well met at Foot Locker’s newest retail banner, SIX:02. Targeting active, performance-minded young women, the lifestyle brand features apparel, footwear and accessories for a range of activities, from yoga to running to dance — and more.

    “SIX:02 is a fitness-fashion destination,” said Mary Lynn Waite, senior designer, Chute Gerdeman, Columbus, Ohio. “The merchandise has crossover appeal in that it can take the customer from the gym to doing errands to meeting friends for coffee to lounging at home.”

  • Chef Boyardee teams up with… Microsoft?

    Chef Boyardee is driving sales by partnering with Microsoft to offer customers a chance to win the highly coveted Xbox One.

    Five daily winners will be selected between now and Feb. 18, 2014. Participants must visit www.winwithchef.com and enter the eight-digit code found on specially marked cans and microwave cups of Chef Boyardee.

  • E-commerce retailer Sugarfina makes unconventional move

    Online high-end candy retailer Sugarfina has opened its first-ever store, a 1,400-sq.-ft. boutique in Los Angeles. The brand is known for its signature turquoise Bento Boxes, a luxurious candy gift box, and such “cocktail” candies as Champagne Gummy Bears, Cuba Libre (spiced rum and coke gummies) and Peach Bellini Gummies.

  • Duracell to donate batteries to Toys for Tots

    Duracell plans to donate up to 1 million batteries to Toys for Tots as part of its Power a Smile program, marking the brand's largest donation to the organization to date.

  • Mid-America sets up in-house marketing and PR

    Oakbrook Terrace, Ill.Mid-America Real Estate Group has named Emily Dutson as the firm’s first in-house marketing associate.

    Beginning on Dec. 1, she will oversee all channels of marketing and public relations for each of Mid-America’s locations in Oakbrook Terrace, Ill., Chicago, Detroit, Milwaukee and Minneapolis. She will provide all online, social media, website and print content as well as promotional initiatives and media communications.

  • Harley-Davidson debuts holiday pinboard

    Milwaukee – Harley-Davidson is debuting a new Pinterest pinboard at Pinterest.com/harleydavidson. The pinboard features holiday gifts as well as 2014 bikes, custom items, and parts and accessories.

    Starting Nov. 26 and running through Dec. 24, people can create their own pinboard with Harley-Davidson items. Harley-Davidson will pick nine weekly winners at the $25-$200 level and one $10,000 grand prize winner with no purchase necessary.
