  • Wal-Mart to add 100 digital developers in India

    Bentonville, Ark. -- Wal-Mart Stores Inc. said Tuesday it will hire 100 additional developers in India as part of its @WalmartLabs unit, which is focused on growing the retailer’s social media and mobile presence globally.

    In November, WalmartLabs, under the retailer’s global e-commerce group, will build an operation in India to use social media and digital technology to attract shoppers.
     

  • RadioShack selects lead advertising agency

    Fort Worth, Texas -- RadioShack Corp. said Thursday it has selected Grey New York as its lead advertising agency of record, concluding a review process that first launched last November.

    "We're thrilled for the opportunity to collaborate with this team as we continue transforming our brand, with a sharp focus on building consumer awareness of our wireless offering and driving traffic into our stores," said Jim Gooch, president and CEO of RadioShack Corp.

  • Express launches new loyalty program; customers can earn points by tweeting

    Columbus, Ohio -- Express announced the launch of Express Next, a new points-based loyalty program open to all Express customers throughout the United States. It replaces the previous loyalty program that was only available to Express Credit Card holders, and is designed to meet the Express shopper's habits both in-store and online, as well as reward brand interaction via social media.

  • 'Desperate Housewife' to debut latest fragrance on HSN

    ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — "Desperate Housewives" star Eva Longoria will debut her second fragrance, EVAmour by Eva Longoria, on HSN, HSN.com and HSN Mobile on March 29.

    "EVAmour will become a personal scent for women who are confident, beautiful, sexy and intelligent...just like the HSN customer," said Longoria. "I know how I feel when I am wearing it and I wish every woman to feel that same sense of sexiness and power."

  • Smartphone shopping dominated holiday season

    NEW YORK — During the 2011 holiday season, the top retail applications and websites combined — including Amazon, Best Buy, eBay, Target and Walmart — reached nearly 60% of smartphone owners, according to Nielsen.

    “The majority of smartphone owners used their devices for shopping this past holiday season,” said John Burbank, president of strategic initiatives at Nielsen. “Mobile shopping has reached scale and is only going to grow as smartphone penetration continues to rise.”

  • Wifarer and Prudential Center partner toward mall-based marketing

    Boston -- Wifarer said Tuesday that it has partnered with Boston’s Prudential Center to deliver promotions and deals to customers based on their location inside the shopping center, as well as to provide insights into visitor traffic and venue usage.

    Wifarer’s indoor positioning technology uses a venue’s WiFi infrastructure to pinpoint the inside location of a user’s smartphone within four and a half feet and without burdening large venues with extraneous hardware, infrastructure or extra WiFi needs.

  • Walgreens checks in with Foursquare

    DEERFIELD, Ill. — Walgreens customers can now access exclusive offers when they check in at any Walgreens store through Foursquare.

    The drugstore chain said customers that check in via Foursquare instantly will receive a unique scannable coupon via their smartphone, which is redeemable in the store and does not require texting, reply or other steps.
