  • Facebook’s Franchet stresses compression, relevance at NRF

    New York – Nicolas Franchet, head of e-commerce global vertical marketing at Facebook, said that compression of screen sizes as consumers switch to mobile devices is the biggest upcoming challenge retailers will face during a session titled “Data the Matters: The Future of Personalization” at the NRF 2014 Conference & Exposition on Sunday, Jan. 12.

    Groupon has expanded its fashion and apparel footprint with its acquisition of Ideeli, a leading online flash fashion retailer, for $43 million in cash.

    Ideeli was founded in 2007 and its members number in the millions.

    Tysons Corner, Va. -- MicroStrategy Inc. announced that Guess has unveiled a new mobile app for its customers powered by the MicroStrategy Alert Platform.

  • Report: Consumers creeped out by POS prompts

    Dallas – A majority of consumers find point-of-sale (POS) prompts, such as discount alerts on their mobile devices an invasion of their privacy. According to a recent website poll from CompuCom, respondents were asked, “Do you find point-of-sale technology prompts, such as a customized alert for discounts upon entering a store”: 63% said it is Big Brother-ish/intrusive while 37% said it is helpful and cool.

    The poll collected 307 responses from IT professionals across multiple industries from Nov. 16, 2013 through Dec. 17, 2013.

  • Pine Tree names omni-channel marketing director

    Northbrook, Ill. — Pine Tree Commercial Realty LLC has appointed Graham Grochocinski to serve as the firm’s director of omni-channel marketing and social media.

    Grochocinski will handle Pine Tree’s omni-channel retail coordination as well as the firm’s social and digital communications.

    Grochocinski comes to Pine Tree from USAgain, an award-winning recycling company, where he managed the integrated marketing efforts for lead generation and branding.

  • CBL’s digital mall marketing system

    In partnership with PlaceWise Media, CBL & Associates Properties has launched websites with technology that connects retailers and customers at 27 of its malls.

    The technology collects deals offered by retailers and puts them in front of shoppers via smartphones and tablets. It provides every retailer and restaurant in a mall with an online presence that enables each to engage local customers.

  • Report: Mobile customers increase store visits during 2013 holiday season

    Austin, Texas -- Shoppers with registered devices and retailer mobile apps made more store visits during the 2013 holiday season than during the previous year’s holiday season. According to data from mobile analytics provider Digby, mobile consumers made 29.6% more store visits during the 2013 holidays than in 2012.
