  • Digital ad spending sets another new record

    Fortified by growing e-commerce sales and time spent across digital channels, the U.S. retail industry will grow its digital ad spending more rapidly this year than in 2012, according to new figures from eMarketer.

    By the end of this year, eMarketer predicts, U.S. retailers will have increased digital ad budgets by 15.7% to $9.50 billion, following growth of 14.5% last year.

  • Lowe's upgrades mobile tech

    Lowe’s has integrated Point Inside's StoreMode mobile shopper engagement platform into its mobile app to improve the in-store customer experience, just in time for Black Friday and Cyber Monday.

    Shoppers at all Lowe's locations will be able to use the Product Locator capability to search for products and instantly see where they are located on a detailed store map using Lowe's iOS and Android mobile apps or Lowe's mobile-optimized website.

  • Playing Reindeer Games at GGP

    General Growth Properties has created an interactive sweepstakes series called Reindeer Games to promote shopping centers across its portfolio throughout the holiday shopping season.

    Starring in Reindeer Games is every kid’s favorite reindeer Rudolph, “with his nose so bright.” Rudolph will lead Santa’s eight other reindeer through a series of nine three-day sweepstakes running from Nov. 28 through Dec. 24. By the end of the promotion, the series will have given away more than $25,000 in prizes.

  • Deloitte survey finds that more than half of consumers will shop Black Friday

    More than half of consumers plan to shop on Black Friday this year, although the number has decreased since last year. According to the Deloitte Pre-Thanksgiving Survey, 53% of 1,000 consumers polled will shop on Black Friday, compared to 63% in 2012.

    Younger consumers are more likely to shop Black Friday, with 68% of weekend shoppers age 18-29 planning to shop that day and 44% of Black Friday shoppers in this age group planning to hit the stores between midnight and 5 a.m., compared to 30% of those 30 and older.

  • Cyber Monday ‘site-crashers’ revealed

    In keeping with the new holiday tradition of revealing promotions early, Walmart on Friday shared its range of extreme value items and free shipping offers and pushed the start of Cyber Monday to Saturday, November 30.

    The headliner deal is a LG brand 55 inch, 3D LED television with a sound bar for $799 along with 200 other online specials that will last through Friday, December 6. Walmart also reduced its free shipping threshold to $35 from $50.

  • Wal-Mart starts Cyber Monday early

    San Bruno, Calif. – Wal-Mart is providing a number of special holiday deals to online and mobile shoppers as part of an early Cyber Monday promotion that begins Saturday, Nov. 30. In addition, Walmart's mobile app customers, Facebook fans and email subscribers will be among the first to receive invitations to an early shopping event on Sunday, Dec. 1, featuring up to 20 of the best Cyber Monday items while supplies last, before they are widely available.

  • Esri launches public beta Geotrigger Service

    Redlands, Calif. — Esri has launched a public beta version of its cloud-based Geotrigger Service, which helps developers create location-aware apps for iPhone and Android without compromising battery lift. Developers may use the beta Geotrigger Service at no cost, and their comments will help to shape the official release.
