    As more retailers increase their sponsorship of gay pride events, Macy's is investing in LGBTQ Pride Month with an exclusive offering of in-store events, parades, commemorative advertising and promotions.

  • Westward expansion continues for Gander Mountain

    Outdoor specialty retailer Gander Mountain remains on a path for national expansion with its recently opened store in El Paso giving the operator of 160 units its westernmost presence.

    Most of St. Paul, Minn.-based Gander Mountain’s stores are concentrated in the upper Midwest and Mid-Atlantic state, but recent years have seen a steady incursion into new markets in the south and West. Prior to the opening of the 61,000-sq.-ft. El Paso location on May 26, Gander Mountain’s westernmost market was Denver where it operates two stores.

  • Toys“R”Us gets social to cure cancer

    Toys“R”Us is launching an innovative social media campaign to raise money for one of the retailer’s most popular causes.

    The retailer is hosting its fifth consecutive fundraising campaign to benefit Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation (ALSF), a nonprofit organization dedicated to finding a cure for childhood cancer.

  • Kohl's sponsors free museum days

    Kohl’s is backing up its commitment to families by sponsoring a museum promotion called Thank You Thursday in Milwaukee.

    The retailer will be offering free general admission to the Museum Public Museum on the first Thursday of every month. Kohl’s Thank You Thursday marks the first time ever free general admission has been regularly provided to the public and will kick off on June 4.

  • Petco and Padres score with dog promotion

    Baseball fans and pet owners will have an opportunity to take their best friend with them to the ballpark later this summer when Petco holds its 11 annual “Dog Days of Summer” event and pregame “tail” gate party.

    Petco hosts the event at Petco Park on Wednesday, July 1 for the 12:40 p.m. home game between the San Diego Padres and the Seattle Mariners. After hosting the event for 11 years, Petco has the logistics and unique operational considerations associated with bringing 500 dogs into a Major League Baseball stadium down pat.

  • Home Depot hosts hurricane workshops May 30

    Atlanta - The Home Depot Inc. will host its third annual Hurricane Preparedness Workshops on May 30. The one-day event, held in nearly 700 stores from the Gulf Coast to New England, will help prepare residents in storm-prone regions ahead of hurricane season, which begins June 1.

    The free workshops will be held 10-11:30 a.m. local time and cover storm readiness topics including understanding hurricane alerts and categories, creating a storm survival kit, choosing a generator, weathering a hurricane safely and repairing a home after a storm has passed.

  • Krogers supports USO with new campaign

    The Kroger Co. is teaming up with the USO on a new customer engagement campaign to raise money for military veterans and their families.

    Customers and associates of Kroger Co. stores (including Ralph's, Food 4 Less and other divisions) will be able to show their support through July 21 by donating their spare change in specially-marked coin boxes at the check stands in all Ralphs supermarkets. One-hundred percent of all donations will go to the USO. But new this year is a digital marketing element in which veterans tell their stories on honoringourheroes.com.

  • Home Depot wants shoppers to be storm-ready

    With hurricane season fast approaching, the Home Depot wants to encourage residents to shop its stores for storm-related gear by hosting nearly 700 storm workshops on May 30 from Texas to Maine.
