    SEATTLE — It’s no surprise that on the heels of record-breaking Cyber Monday sales, heavyweight Amazon reported record sales of its popular Kindle devices.

    Cyber Monday 2012 proved to be the biggest day ever for Kindle sales worldwide, cementing the top four spots for Kindle e-readers and Kindle fires on Amazon’s worldwide bestsellers list. The Kindle devices have held the top four spots since their launch nearly three months ago.

    To celebrate Cyber Monday, Amazon.com offered the Kindle Fire for $129.

  • Dollar General announces new mobile apps

    Goodlettsville, Tenn. -- Dollar General announces its new mobile applications for iPhone and Android smartphones that include sales ads, store locations, coupons and more.

    “Many of our shoppers use mobile phones for shopping and to make purchasing decisions,” said Todd Vasos, Dollar General’s executive VP, division president and chief merchandising officer. “We’re making shopping at Dollar General simpler for our customers by making ads and information available at the touch of a button on their mobile phone.”

  • Dollar General tackles Cyber Monday

    GOODLETTSVILLE, Tenn. — Capitalizing on its Thanksgiving and Black Friday sales, Dollar General has tackled Cyber Monday with the launch of a new mobile app for iPhone and Android smartphones.

    The mobile app will offer shoppers sales ads, store locations, coupons and, of course, exclusive Cyber Monday deals available online. Shoppers will also be able to use Dollar General’s free Quick Response scanner to access upcoming sales and unlock additional savings, as well as connect with the retailer on Facebook, YouTube and Twitter.

  • Shop.org: 129.2 million Americans to shop online on Cyber Monday

    Washington, D.C. -- A survey released by Shop.org and conducted by BIGinsight found that 129.2 million shoppers say they’ll head to retailers’ websites on Cyber Monday, up from the 122.8 million who shopped last year, and the 106.9 million who shopped on Cyber Monday in 2010.
     
    The majority (85%) of retailers will have a special promotion for Cyber Monday, according to a prior survey.

  • comScore forecasts 17% rise in holiday spending, to $43.4 billion

    Reston, Va. -- Online retail spending for the November – December period will reach $43.4 billion, a 17% gain versus year ago, according to comScore. The increase represents an improvement compared with last season’s 15% rise, and is also far ahead of the retail industry’s expectation for a 4.1% increase in consumers’ overall spending this holiday season.
