  • Sears Hometown and Outlet Stores promotes COO to CEO

    Hoffman Estates, Ill. – Sears Hometown and Outlet Stores Inc. has named William (Will) A. Powell as CEO and president. Powell succeeds W. Bruce Johnson, who as previously announced is stepping down as CEO and president.

  • dd's Discounts ramps up growth in Florida

    Dublin, Calif. -- dd’s Discounts, a division of Ross Stores, Inc., opened a new store in Tampa on June 27.  

    The 22,000-sq.-ft. store, located in University Plaza on the northwest corner of Fletcher Avenue and Bruce B. Downs Boulevard, marks the retailer’s 26th store in Florida and secures the state as dd’s third-largest in terms of store counts.

  • Ross Dress for Less to open a pair of new stores near Raleigh

    Dublin, Calif. -- Ross Dress for Less will open two new stores in the Raleigh, North Carolina, area on July 18.  The stores are located in the Wake Forest Crossing in Wake Forest, 15 miles northeast of downtown Raleigh, and the Shops at Cameron in Sanford, 50 miles southwest of Raleigh.  

    These openings are part of the retailer’s 2015 expansion program, totaling approximately 70 new locations during the year.  
     

  • Better late than never, Whole Foods apologizes

    After initially quibbling with an investigation that found instances of incorrectly priced products at stores in New York, Whole Foods co-CEOs, Walter Robb and John Mackey offered a mea culpa in a YouTube video.

    The nearly two minute video appeared on Whole Foods YouTube channel on July 1, eight days after the New York Daily News first published an article based on an investigation by the New York City Department of Consumer Affairs (DCA).

  • Ross Dress for Less to add two stores to Kentucky presence

    Dublin, Calif. -- Ross Dress for Less will open new stores in Corbin, Kentucky, and in Middletown, Kentucky, both on July 18.  

    The 22,000-sq.-ft. Corbin store is located in the Trademart Shopping Center at Highway 25 and Master Street.

    The 25,000-sq.-ft. Middletown store is located in Middletown Commons at Interstate 265 and Shelbyville Road, 14 miles east of Louisville.  

    Both are part of the retailer’s 2015 expansion program, totaling approximately 70 new locations during the year.  

  • Sears Hometown and Outlets has a new CEO

    Sears Hometown and Outlet Stores has promoted its chief operating officer to CEO.

    The board of directors has elected William (Will) A. Powell as the company’s chief executive officer and resident, effective immediately. Powell succeeds W. Bruce Johnson, who as previously announced is stepping down.

    New York – Barnes & Noble Inc. has tapped Ronald D. Boire, currently president and CEO of Sears Canada Inc., to become the CEO of its new retail division, effective Sept. 8.
