  • Dunn done at Best Buy

    MINNEAPOLIS — After nearly 30 years, Brian Dunn has resigned as CEO and director of Best Buy. According to the company, Dunn's decision to resign was mutually agreed upon with the company and was not the result of any disagreement with himself and Best Buy. Director G. Mike Mikan has been named interim CEO to lead the company while a search for a new CEO is underway. Richard Schulze, the founder of Best Buy, continues to serve as chairman.

  • Safeway promotes CFO to president

    Pleasanton, Calif. -- Safeway announced Monday that it has promoted its executive VP and CFO Robert Edwards to the position of president.

    Edwards has held his current role since 2004. He will have overall responsibility for the company's retail operations, marketing, merchandising, corporate brands, manufacturing, distribution and finance functions, and will continue as CFO until a successor is named to the position.

  • Divaris announces promotions

    Virginia Beach, Va. -- Divaris Real Estate has announced several promotions within its sales and leasing divisions, as well as in its property management arm.

    According to Gerald S. Divaris, president, Eric Bucklew, Krista Costa and Erica Meekins were all promoted to VP in the Virginia Beach headquarters of DRE.

  • Staff reductions, poor food sales hurt Supervalu in Q4

    MINNEAPOLIS  — Costs related to workforce reduction contributed to $424 million, or $2 per diluted share loss, at Supervalu for its fourth quarter of fiscal 2012. For the quarter, net sales were $8.2 billion. For the fourth quarter of fiscal 2011, the company reported net sales of $8.7 billion and net earnings of $95 million or 44 cents per diluted share.

  • Family Dollar adds to legal team

    MATTHEWS, N.C. — Family Dollar Stores has named Jon Broz to the position of VP and assistant general counsel, litigation. Broz will report to James Snyder, Jr., SVP general counsel and secretary.

    “We are excited to have someone with Jon’s breadth of retail litigation experience join our team,” said Snyder. “Jon has a strong reputation for working closely with his clients and seeking creative solutions to resolve disputes quickly and cost effectively.”

  • Family Dollar appoints VP

    Matthews, N.C. -- Family Dollar Stores has named Jon Broz to the position of VP and assistant general counsel, litigation.

    Broz comes to Family Dollar from Lowe’s Cos.
     

  • Safeway names new president

    PLEASANTON, Calif. — Safeway has named Robert Edwards president of the company. Edwards has served as Safeway's EVP and CFO since 2004.

  • Home Depot theft ring busted

    ATLANTA — An organized retail theft ring that targeted 70 Home Depot stores in six states has been taken down by multi-agency task force after the arrest of three men in New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania. Two other suspects are still be sought.
