Wal-Mart's general counsel expands duties

Bentonville, Ark. Wal-Mart Stores said Wednesday that Jeff Gearhart, Wal-Mart's general counsel, will also take on the responsibility of corporate secretary.

Gearhart will report to president and CEO Mike Duke.

Tom Hyde, the company's executive VP and corporate secretary, will retire after nine years of service. The changes will take effect August 1, said Wal-Mart.
