Amazon has biggest ever Black Friday – Cyber Monday event

Amazon had its best-ever Black Friday week and Cyber Monday.

Amazon set a new sales record during its 12-day holiday promotional event from Thursday, Nov. 21 – Monday, Dec. 2.

While the e-tail giant did not release specific sales figures, it said customers saved “billions” of dollars during its Black Friday Week and Cyber Monday holiday shopping event, which was its biggest ever compared to the same 12-day period ending on Cyber Monday in prior years. 

According to Amazon, the deal event also saw a record number of items sold. In the U.S., some of the best-selling product categories included electronics, toys, and beauty, with popular items such as Beats headphones and earbuds, Samsung TVs, Barbie, Play-doh, Shark vacuums and air purifiers, and Medicube beauty devices and skincare topping the charts.

More than 60% of sales in Amazon’s store during the event were from independent sellers, according to the e-tailer.

"We know how much our customers appreciate saving money, and our customers saved billions with us during this year’s holiday shopping event," said Doug Herrington, CEO, worldwide Amazon stores. "And we have many more fun and exciting ways for them to continue to save this holiday season. We want to thank our customers for choosing Amazon during this special time of year. I also want to thank our employees, vendors, and selling partners for delivering an outstanding experience time after time."

The holidays are underway at Amazon

Amazon has already been having a busy holiday season. The company hosted two early holiday events – Prime Big Deal Days and the Holiday Beauty Haul.

And for the first time this year, customers are able to visit Amazon’s Virtual Holiday Shop. The company is leveraging its Amazon Beyond 3D immersive platform to provide 3D visual and interactive content within the virtual store environment that includes seasonal music, animations and a guided shopping experience. 

Other special Amazon online holiday shopping features include a dedicated storefront for items from small businesses, including Black-owned, woman-owned, and military family-owned businesses; as well as a curated Oprah’s Favorite Things gift guide.

Shopify breaks Black Friday – Cyber Monday sales records

E-commerce platform Shopify also reported strong results from the Black Friday weekend – Cyber Monday period. In an email to Chain Store Age, Shopify said it achieved a record-breaking $11.5 billion in online sales, representing a 24% increase in sales over the 2023 Black Friday-Cyber Monday weekend.

According to the company, more than 76 million consumers made at least one purchase from a Shopify retailer during Black Friday weekend – Cyber Monday.
