Wonder plans more than 100 Texas locations by end of 2027

The delivery- and pickup-focused restaurant company founded by former Walmart executive Marc Lore is expanding far beyond its Northeast roots.

Wonder announced it will open for business in Texas in 2027, marking its next phase of growth as a multi-region operator. The expansion is the company's first move beyond the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic and will see Wonder open in the Dallas-Fort Worth, Houston, Austin and San Antonio metropolitan areas.

Dallas-Fort Worth will serve as Wonder’s first entry point in Texas. Ahead of its first openings in the state in early 2027, Wonder is making investments there including new storefront construction, kitchen buildouts, technology infrastructure, and professional services.

During the next two years, Wonder expects to create thousands of new jobs statewide as it intends to open more than 100 locations in Texas by the end of 2027.

Wonder pursues rapid expansion 

Wonder is in growth mode, having recently made its Massachusetts debut with the grand opening of three new locations in the communities of Belmont, Natick and Framingham, which will be followed by six more locations over the next few months and additional expansion in the Greater Boston area later in 2026. 

Currently, Wonder operates more than 100 locations across nine states, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Delaware, Virginia, Maryland and Massachusetts, as well as in Washington D.C. The company says it remains on pace to surpass more than 200 storefronts by year's end.

Wonder also recently made its first-ever physical restaurant acquisition by purchasing New York City-based fast-casual restaurant Blue Ribbon Fried Chicken from Blue Ribbon Restaurants, and debuted two brand-new restaurant concepts: Pop Salad and El Diez Mexican Bowls.

Wonder- a brief primer

Wonder's multi-restaurant model lets customers choose from more than 20 different restaurant concepts, including Alanza, Tejas Barbecue and Streetbird by Marcus Samuelsson, with every dish made to order in a Wonder storefront and delivered fast and free. 

In May 2025, Wonder raised $600 million in capital, following a 2024 infusion of $700 million in capital that included a $100 million investment from Lore.

Wonder, which acquired Gruhub from Netherlands-based global online delivery conglomerate JustEatTakeaway.com for $650 million in November 2024, also recently purchased Spyce, an automated culinary tool is designed to balance the core elements of cooking technique, measurement and timing, from healthy eating chain Sweetgreen for $86.4 million  in cash and shares.

In addition, Wonder plans to "aggressively invest" in research and development, according to founder Marc Lore, focusing on areas including faster cook times, software enhancements, new menu items, new chefs and new restaurant partnerships.

Lore said the company will also continue to invest in proprietary technology to drive operational efficiencies, including back-end technology focused on driving down food waste, next-gen kitchen designs to improve throughput and consistency, and an enhanced delivery network. 

Wonder has publicly said its ultimate goal is to become the "super app for meal time."
