Walmart launches new digital cash rebate program

Walmart is partnering with cash back rewards platform Ibotta to provide access to hundreds of cash rebates for online and mobile purchases.

Through this new partnership, Walmart customers will have access to hundreds of cash rebates on popular products. Unique to this program, rebates will be redeemed and cash provided directly to customers’ Walmart accounts. Customers can then apply the cash toward activities such as future Walmart purchases, a Walmart+ membership, and grocery delivery. The program expands a collaboration Walmart and Ibotta launched in 2018.

Walmart will also join the Ibotta Performance Network (IPN), a digital platform that enables cash rebates to be delivered in a coordinated fashion across large third-party sites, including social media networks, recipe sites and other platforms. Walmart customers on those platforms will be presented with digital offers for relevant products, which they can select and seamlessly add to their Walmart digital cart for online or in-store shopping.

By joining the IPN, Walmart will expand upon the targeted, sponsored digital advertising targeting services the discounter offers via its Walmart Advertising Partners platform. The companies also plan to pursue integration opportunities with Walmart’s broader financial services offerings.
