Walmart Inc. is expanding efforts to grow its drone delivery program in the Houston market.

In an email to Chain Store Age, a representative for Wing, an on-demand drone delivery provider powered by Google parent company Alphabet, said Walmart is adding eight new drone hubs across the Greater Houston area.

The discount giant, which launched drone delivery in Greater Houston in January 2026, is now operating 13 drone hubs (called “nests”) with Wing, making drone delivery available to more than 1 million area consumers. The nests are located in Houston, Spring, New Caney, Crosby, Katy and Kemah, Texas.

Walmart has previously said it will expand “ultra-fast” service via drones from Wing to an additional 150 stores over the next year, giving it a network of more than 270 drone delivery locations in 2027.

These moves expand a partnership Walmart launched with, for drone delivery in the Dallas-Fort Worth market in August 2023. In June 2025, Walmart said it was offering its drone delivery service in Atlanta, Charlotte, Houston, Orlando and Tampa.

More recently, in June 2026 Walmart announced plans to bring Wing drone delivery to Memphis, New Orleans, Philadelphia, Phoenix, San Diego, San Francisco Bay Area and Salt Lake City. This planned expansion into more regions will bring Walmart and Wing’s total service footprint to nearly 20 U.S. markets across the country.

Wing’s drones fly at speeds up to 60 mph and use a tether to lower packages directly to a customer’s yard or driveway in as fast as 30 minutes. Once drone delivery is available, customers within delivery range will see the option on the Walmart app or website based on the address associated with their account. Customers can also place a delivery directly through the Wing app.

Walmart also now offers drone-based food delivery via Zipline drones in Rowlett, Texas and is the first retailer to scale drone delivery across five states: Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, North Carolina and Texas.

Based in Bentonville, Ark., Walmart Inc. runs 10,900 stores and numerous e-commerce websites in 19 countries.
