Walmart brings ultrafast drone delivery to Houston
Walmart is not taking a pause in efforts to spread on-demand drone delivery across the U.S.
Days after Wing, the on-demand drone delivery provider powered by Google parent company Alphabet, announced Walmart will expand its partnership to an additional 150 stores over the next year, the discount giant is offering drone delivery in Greater Houston in partnership with Wing.

Launching Thursday, Jan. 15, 2026, the Houston service marks Walmart and Wing’s first joint drone delivery market of the year. Customers can order essentials for delivery in as fast as 30 minutes.
Walmart has already completed hundreds of thousands of drone deliveries across dozens of sites in the U.S., starting with the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex in 2023 and most recently, metro Atlanta. The retailer initially began making drone-based deliveries from three stores in Northwest Arkansas in late 2021.
Walmart expects to have a network of more than 270 drone delivery locations in 2027. The network will stretch from Los Angeles to Miami and service about 40 million U.S. consumers.
In addition to Houston (which was previously announced as an expansion market along with Orlando and Tampa, Fla. and Charlotte, N.C.), new service areas will include major metropolitan hubs such as Los Angeles, St. Louis, Cincinnati, and Miami, with others to be announced later.
"This is our most ambitious year yet as we work with Walmart to deliver to more customers by drone than ever before, and there’s no better place to start than Greater Houston," said Heather Rivera, chief business officer at Wing. "We’ve seen how much Texans value having a fast, safe way to get what they need from the skies, and we are now serving one of the largest and most dynamic metropolitan areas in the country."
Wing’s automated, lightweight drones are custom-designed in the U.S. to operate safely in densely populated areas, flying at about 150 feet and reaching speeds up to about 60 mph. The drones utilize a tether and winch system to lower packages weighing up to about 2.5 pounds to a spot about the size of a picnic blanket on a customer's property.
