Walmart expands drone delivery in seven major metro areas
Walmart Inc. is not slowing down efforts to grow its drone delivery program nationally.
The discount giant is expanding a partnership it launched with Wing, an on-demand drone delivery provider powered by Google parent company Alphabet, for drone delivery in the Dallas-Fort Worth market in August 2023, to Memphis, New Orleans, Philadelphia, Phoenix, San Diego, San Francisco Bay Area and Salt Lake City.
This planned expansion into more regions will bring Walmartand Wing’s total service footprint to nearly 20 U.S. markets across the country. In June 2025, Walmart said it was offering its drone delivery service in Atlanta, Charlotte, Houston, Orlando and Tampa.
This move made the company the first retailer to scale drone delivery across five states: Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, North Carolina and Texas. So far in 2026, Walmart has said it will expand “ultra-fast” service via drones from Wing to an additional 150 stores over the next year, giving it a network of more than 270 drone delivery locations in 2027, and launched Wing drone delivery in Greater Houston.

“Customers expect their orders on their terms, delivered with speed and ease,” said Greg Cathey, senior VP of e-commerce fulfillment transformation, Walmart U.S. “Expanding into new markets with Wing allows us to provide an innovative delivery option for customers, utilizing our vast store network to make everyday shopping and fulfilling last-minute needs just a little bit easier.”
Wing’s drones fly at speeds up to 60 mph and use a tether to lower packages directly to a customer’s yard or driveway in as fast as 30 minutes. Once drone delivery is available, customers within delivery range will see the option on the Walmart app or website based on the address associated with their account. Customers can also place a delivery directly through the Wing app.
Walmart also now offers drone-based food delivery via Zipline drones in Rowlett, Texas.
"Our work with Walmart has shown that drone delivery isn’t just a novelty, it’s a service many customers count on multiple times per week," said Heather Rivera, Wing chief business officer. "We’re already working with many communities in the seven new markets, as we accelerate our progress to bring ultra-fast delivery to 40 million residents throughout the U.S."
Based in Bentonville, Ark., Walmart Inc. runs 10,900 stores and numerous e-commerce websites in 19 countries.
