Rebag joins Walmart Marketplace

Walmart Marketplace
Rebag is now available on Walmart Marketplace.

A resale retailer of luxury handbags and accessories is opening a storefront on a major third-party digital platform.

In an email to Chain Store Age, a Walmart spokesperson said Rebag has joined the Walmart Marketplace, offering a catalog of tens of thousands of listings across luxury handbags, jewelry and watches.

The Rebag assortment available on the discounter’s hosted third-party online sales platform includes upscale brands like Louis Vuitton, Hermès, Chanel, Gucci, Christian Dior, Saint Laurent, Fendi, Prada, Bottega Veneta and Goyard. It will also feature 100 items sold exclusively to Walmart customers.

The move makes Rebag one of the first luxury resale brands to partner with Walmart, and Walmart Marketplace is the first mass retailer that Rebag is using as a strategic sales channel.

"This strategic move amplifies Walmart's ongoing efforts to introduce customers to emerging categories and brands," the Walmart spokesperson said in the email. "The result has been a robust e-commerce growth trajectory, with more than 30% sales surge in each of the past five quarters for Walmart Marketplace."

Rebag items are now available on the Walmart e-commerce site and app. Customers can browse and shop the catalog on Rebag’s exclusive brand shop on the Walmart Marketplace platform.

Rebag expands collaboration strategy

Rebag has been launching a variety of new offerings in the past year. These include an initiative that has made a curated selection of more than 2,500 designer handbags, watches and jewelry available for sale online at Bloomingdales.com.

In addition, more than 500 items will be featured in five select Bloomingdale's stores. Rebag has also entered a partnership with online resale platform ThredUp that allows customers to sell items via ThredUp for Rebag shopping credit and also enables ThredUp customers to shop select Rebag inventory directly on the ThredUp site.

The ThredUp partnership followed Rebag’s September 2023 introduction of a new consignment model, as well as a June 2023 exclusive auction offering with Christie's.

Walmart Marketplace sees growth

Walmart has been expanding the scope of offerings and features of its Marketplace platform. Hundreds of pre-verified sneakers from online marketplace StockX are also available directly on the platform.

And at its annual "Let’s Grow! 2024 Walmart Marketplace Seller Summit," the discount giant announced new offerings including a resale storefront, expanded categories, and several fulfillment and logistics services.

Other recent examples include offering third-party sellers of Chinese products a new avenue to sell directly to Walmart customers and connecting tire sales on its online marketplace to its in-store auto care centers.
