Walmart launches omnichannel tire service for third-party sales

Walmart tires
Walmart is making it easier to buy and install tires from third-party sellers.

Walmart is connecting tire sales on its online marketplace to its in-store auto care centers.

The discounter is now enabling customers to order eligible tires from third-party sellers on Walmart Marketplace and have them shipped to a local Walmart store for installation at one of its auto care centers

This initiative expands Walmart’s total installation-eligible tire assortment across stores and online by 12,000 unique items, including specialty tires, to provide nearly 40,000 marketplace offers for installation at 2,300 Walmart auto care centers around the country.

Tires eligible for installation are tagged "Available for Installation," while the online shopping experience also allows customers to check if the tires are appropriate for their vehicle. Expert tire installation starts at just $18 per tire and can be scheduled via the Walmart app or e-commerce site.

The seamless integration also allows for the return of tires purchased online via Walmart Marketplace at the retailer’s auto care centers. Walmart began directly selling tires and related installation services via an online tool called the Walmart Tire Finder in 2019.

Virtual Garage

Walmart debuted another omnichannel auto feature in August 2023, known as Virtual Garage. The feature, available on the Walmart site and app allows customers to store details about multiple vehicles and connect with scheduling service appointments at Walmart auto care centers.

As customers use these features, they can also shop Walmart’s full range of auto items, including products from third-party sellers. Customers can now schedule an oil change or tire installation right in the app.

Virtual Garage also makes key vehicle information readily available, like incremental vehicle identifiers, service, invoice history and warranties. And since October 2023, Walmart+ subscription program members have been able to get free road hazard warranty and flat tire repair when they purchase and install their tires at Walmart.

Based in Bentonville, Ark., Walmart Inc. operates more than 10,500 stores and numerous e-commerce websites in 19 countries.
