  • Curacao teams with Kronos for workforce management

    Chelmsford, Mass. -- Kronos Inc. said Wednesday that Hispanic department store chain Curacao is using a comprehensive workforce management solution from Kronos to control labor costs and improve customer satisfaction.

    Curacao’s previous manual and dispersed workforce management solutions have been automated and standardized with the Kronos time and attendance, forecasting and scheduling, and HR applications from Kronos. The new system also integrates seamlessly with the retailer’s enterprise-wide payroll system.

  • CVS/pharmacy joins Shopkick as inaugural retail pharmacy partner

    Palo Alto, Calif. -- Shopkick, a shopping application that rewards shoppers for walking into stores and interacting with products, has teamed up with CVS/pharmacy to roll out a first-ever offering of walk-in and other rewards at a retail pharmacy, Shopkick announced on Tuesday.

    The program kicks off with a special offer, kicking $5 back to shoppers who visit participating CVS/pharmacy locations with the Shopkick app. 

    

  • Dots names former Wal-Mart exec as new CEO, unveils plans to grow to 1,000 stores

    Glenwillow, Ohio -- Fashion retailer Dots announced Tuesday it has named former Wal-Mart Stores senior VP Lisa Rhodes as its new CEO.
       
    Rhodes, who led Wal-Mart’s U.S. apparel merchandising division, has been charged with leading Dots’ march toward 1,000 stores, also announced Tuesday.
        
    Prior to her role at Wal-Mart, Rhodes was executive VP and chief merchandising officer for Maurice’s.

    Las Vegas -- Former Sports Authority chief David Campisi has been named chairman and CEO of Respect Your Universe, a performance apparel company.

  • 99 Cents Only to establish clean trucking fleet

    City of Commerce, Calif. -- 99 Cents Only Stores said Monday it will convert 40 semi-trucks from diesel to clean-burning compressed natural gas (CNG).

    This new fleet, according to the discounter, is the largest private Class-8 CNG trucking fleet in Southern California.

    The move comes as part of 99 Cents Only’s plan to become a greener organization and ties in with the chain’s 30th anniversary since its debut in 1982.

  • Quaker Steak & Lube on track to open 11 restaurants in 2012

    Sharon, Pa. -- Casual-dining chain Quaker Steak & Lube said Monday it has opened its 50th restaurant in Lakewood, Ohio, and is on track to open 10 additional restaurants this year. The brand also will be expanding to six new markets with five franchise groups over the next several years.

    "Over the past six months, we signed agreements to develop 11 new restaurants around the country, including three corporate locations in Texas," said John Longstreet, president and CEO.

  • Kinney Drugs to join StoreBoard billboard network

    New York City -- StoreBoard said Monday that Kinney Drugs has joined its in-store billboard network.

    Under terms of the agreement, StoreBoard Media will place its billboards on the security pedestals at the entranceways to Kinney Drugs’ 94 stores in central and northern New York and Vermont.

    San Francisco -- Fluid Inc., a digital agency and creator of on-demand, e-commerce solutions for retailers, has teamed up with specialty retailer Charlotte Russe to launch the brand’s newly redesigned e-commerce web and mobile sites.
