Northeast grocery co-op Allegiance Retail deploys Instacart tech
The parent company of Foodtown is rolling out Instacart e-commerce capabilities and smart carts at select stores.
Allegiance Retail Services, a retailer-owned co-op which supports more than 125 independently-owned supermarkets across the Northeast, is expanding an existing partnership with Instacart to introduce Storefront Pro, its end-to-end customizable e-commerce solution built specifically for supermarket retailers, in select Foodtown locations.
In addition, Allegiance is rolling out Instacart AI-equipped Caper Carts smart carts in Foodtown stores in Mt. Vernon, N.Y., Red Bank, N.J., and East Stroudsburg, Penn., with additional deployments planned for 2026.
Allegiance is also expanding its use of the Instacart FoodStorm order management system for catering and prepared foods, with more store launches set for early 2026. Instacart Carrot Ads electronic shelf label (ESL) software will follow in upcoming phases.

As part of the expansion, Instacart is partnering with Allegiance's loyalty provider AppCard to deliver a unified loyalty rewards, digital promotions, and coupons across online and in-store shopping. Through integrations with Storefront Pro and Caper Carts, Allegiance customers will now receive the same personalized deals and savings whether they're ordering online or shopping in person.
