5/14/2013

NEW YORK — The Fourth of July fireworks extravaganza is not the only patriotic item on Macy’s all-American agenda. The retailer is launching its American Icons campaign, featuring American-inspired merchandise, Wednesday, May 15.

The campaign includes launch parties, “pop up” drive-in movies, cross-country road trips, Major and Minor League baseball events, grilling competitions, sweepstakes and a fundraising program to benefit America’s veterans.

The campaign will also feature Macy’s “American Icons” commercial spot, the retailer’s first national crowd-sourced commercialcreated in celebration of America by Americans.

“Macy’s American Icons is our nationwide effort to honor the U.S.A. and those who have served our country through a variety of initiatives, which includes exclusive fashion from some of America’s favorite designers, lively in-store and community events, interactive digital content, patriotic advertising and a give-back program to support our veterans,” said Martine Reardon, Macy’s CMO. “This campaign is Macy’s tribute to our country’s heritage of freedom, bravery and pride and will serve to highlight American style, cherished pastimes and meaningful causes that are important parts of the fabric of our culture.”

Fashion and home products decked out in classic red, white and blue colors, bold star and stripe prints and gingham patterns will be available by brands such as Ralph Lauren, Calvin Klein, Michael Kors, Tommy Hilfiger, Nike and Levi’s. Other American Icons-inspired products will be available from Alfani, I.N.C., Bar III, Betsey Johnson, American Rag, Charter Club, Style & Co, Vince Camuto, Coach, Keds, Haskell, Marilyn Monroe, Kipling, Estée Lauder, Fiesta and Lenox.

Macy’s also aims to raise $3 million to benefit Got Your 6, a veteran and military family campaign working to improve veteran reintegration, celebrate veterans as leaders and civic assets and help veterans find jobs. To that end, the retailer is offering a special savings pass to customers now through June 9. Shoppers can give $3 at any register and get a 20/15 percent savings pass for a day they choose or shoppers can choose to wear their support by purchasing a Got Your 6 pin for $6 and also receive the discount, with 100% of the purchase price of the pins benefiting Got Your 6 and its nonprofit partners, up to $3 million.
