    Los Angeles -- TruConnect Mobile announced that Walmart is now the exclusive provider of its prepaid mobile broadband service Internet on the Go, powered by the MiFi 2200 Intelligent Mobile Hotspot.

    The service plan has no monthly fee and the data balance never expires (if used once a year).

  • Walgreens in CDC pilot to offer free HIV tests

    Deerfield, Ill. -- Walgreens announced it is participating in a Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) pilot program to help connect more people with HIV to care. Through the first phase of the two-year program, select Walgreens pharmacies in Chicago, and Washington, D.C., and a select Take Care Clinic in Lithonia, Ga., are offering free HIV testing.

    According to the CDC, an estimated 1.1 million people in the United States are living with HIV, but nearly one in five of those infected is unaware of their condition.

  • Developing report: Best Buy founder considering buying out company

    Minneapolis -- A just-released report from the Wall Street Journal said that Best Buy founder Richard Schulze, who resigned his chairman of the board seat earlier this month, may be looking into buying out the company.

    Schulze is said to be working with bankers from Credit Suisse. At the time of his resignation as chairman, he owned approximately 20% of the company.

    HERMOSA BEACH, Calif. — Virtual Piggy, a provider of a technology platform that allows children to shop online in a parent-controlled environment, has formed agreements with sports retailers Spyder Surf and Tahoe Mountain Sports.

    TOPEKA, Kan. — Payless is reaching out to women with uncommon shoe sizes by offering a wide range of popular styles for the summer season in size 11, 12 and 13 and in wide width options at prices as low as just $15 a pair.

  • Ritz Camera files for bankruptcy; to close 128 stores

    New York -- Ritz Camera & Image has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection. As part of its restructuring, the company, which has 265 stores in 34 states, plans to close 128 locations and cut its staff of 2,000 in half.

    This is the second time Ritz has sought protection under the bankruptcy laws, having emerged from Chapter 11 two years ago.
