  • Dollar General in hiring push

    Dollar General announced a major hiring initiative to support its continued expansion.   The discounter said that within the next month it intends to hire 10,000 new employees to support planned store openings and fill current vacancies. The chain will hold approximately 600 localized hiring events through September. It is looking to hire both full-time and part-time positions, including store managers, assistant store managers, lead sales associates and store associates.  
  • Furniture giant extends commitment to 'click-and-collect'

    Ikea continues to break the mold when it comes to furniture retailing.   In a move that supports its transition from a traditional brick-and-mortar retailer to a multichannel player, Ikea recently opened the doors of its third “click-and-collect” location in England, in the city of Birmingham.   
  • Electronics giant adds mobile wallet

    The mobile wallet wars are heating up again.   Best Buy is the newest retailer to accept mobile payments, a move that it expects to streamline checkout and drive loyalty. A multiyear agreement with Chase enables the chain to accept Chase Pay in its stores, on BestBuy.com, and in the Best Buy app.

    Whole Foods Market opened its third store under its new banner, 365 by Whole Foods Market, on Wednesday, in Bellevue, Washington.
     
    The 30,000-sq.-ft. store boasts a strong digital presence, reported GeekWire, from digital signage to digital scales.
        

  • More Amazon Lockers headed to the U.K.

    Morrisons is leveraging its partnership with Amazon to deliver the next wave of convenience for its time-starved shoppers.   The United Kingdom-based grocer plans to install hundreds of Amazon Lockers throughout its supermarkets this year, a move that allows customers to pick up Amazon orders at the store rather than wait for a home delivery.
