  • Toys ‘R’ Us holiday hiring flat with last year

    Wayne, N.J. – Toys “R” Us, Inc. plans to hire 45,000 employees to staff its stores and distribution centers nationwide for the upcoming holiday season. This number is basically flat from last year’s holiday staffing totals.

  • Academy Sports + Outdoors to enter Memphis area

    Katy, Texas -- Academy Sports + Outdoors will open its first Memphis-area store on Sept. 27, in Collierville, Tenn. In conjunction with the opening, Academy has signed a multi-year partnership with The University of Memphis and its athletics multimedia rights holder, Tiger Sports Properties.

    The new 73,000-sq.-ft. Collierville store will be Academy's eighth store in Tennessee.

  • Demandware releases digital store solution

    Burlington, Mass. – Demandware is releasing a new in-store solution that will extend the omnichannel capabilities of the Demandware Commerce platform into the physical store. Demandware’s new digital store solution will allow retailers to digitize the store by combining omnichannel platform capabilities with purpose-built store functionality such as buy in-store/ship to home, guided selling, bar code scanning and secure credit card transactions.

  • Report: Indie bookstores rebound

    Atlanta – Independent bookstores are reportedly growing sales at a healthy rate despite stiff competition from Amazon.com. According to an article in Fortune, American Booksellers Association figures show that independent bookstore sales in the U.S. grew 8% last year and are on track to grow at a similar pace this year.

  • Millennial IT Needs are Less Unique than You (or They) Think

    Retailers often assume that meeting the needs of the Millennial generation through technology is a highly specialized endeavor due to the unique experience these “digital natives” have had growing up in an IT-centric world.   • Deloitte: U.S. holiday sales to rise 4% to 4.5%

    New York -- Holiday sales are expected to climb to between $963 and $967 billion, representing a 4% to 4.5% increase in November through January holiday sales (excluding motor vehicles and gasoline) this year from last year’s season, according to the new Deloitte holiday sales forecast. The growth rate is on par with last year's 4.5% gain.

    In addition, Deloitte forecasts a 12.5 to 13% increase in non-store sales. Nearly three-quarters of non-store sales result from the online channel with additional sales coming from catalogs and interactive TV.

  • Domino’s launches online ‘Pizza Profiles’

    Ann Arbor, Mich. – Domino’s Pizza begins a national campaign today promoting its enhanced online ordering profiles platform, allowing customers the ability to save information and reorder their favorite order in as little as five clicks, or about 30 seconds.

    Customers who order at dominos.com can create their pizza profile by saving their favorite order, as well as address and payment information, then accessing the new 'Your Easy Order' and 'Your Recent Orders' sections in the future to reorder in as few as five clicks.
